With a little more work, this title could've brought Sonic back from the dead.
From the team that brought you Sonic and the Secret Rings comes it's sequel, Sonic and the Black Knight. Was it worth the wait? For the most part, not really. I look back on Secret Rings and can't help but feel it did things better than Black Knight. Oh look, you get a talking sword as your weapon. Is this really necessary? Lately, it looks like Sonics' trying to be a hedgehog version of Link, what with his similar wolf form and now a sword. Customization in the game is very limited, not even allowing you to change Sonics' sword.
The opening cutscene looked great, but that's pretty much the only cutscene that looked great. The rest are just lame storybook cutscenes that looked ugly compared to the opening cut scene. C'mon, Sega. Why can't you drop the whole "storybook cutscene" thing and actually make good cutscenes, like Sonic Unleashed. Even if this is called the "storybook series", that doesn't mean you can't have high quality cutscenes. Sure, they move better than Secret Rings', but still, that doesn't make up for the lack of color and feeling.
The menu gives you pretty much the same things that Secret Rings gave, with a few extra things. Adventure, Multiplayer, Ranking, Gallery, and Options. The bad thing is, you can't face A.I.'s on multiplayer, so if you want to play multiplayer, you'll have to get a friend to play it with you. Other than that, multiplayer is a great option in this game, but it gets boring and repetitive right off the bat. Even with a lot of different modes, they all still feel the same and have the same shallow gameplay. At least it's not a rip-off of Mario Party.
Adventure was....well.... it was packed with flaws, but still an overall good experience. The story is way too short, but it's still very cool. The combat got repetitive VERY quickly, because all you do is swing the Wiimote around, and when your Soul Gauge fills up, hold down the B button while swinging the Wiimote around, which really isn't much of a difference. As stated before, customization in the game is too limited, so if you want to equip a non-talking sword to Sonic, you're screwed.
Gallery features much extra content like pictures, songs, etc. Much like Secret Rings, you unlock these extra things by doing certain things in Adventure mode. Some very useful contents that I found included walkthrough videos, so if your stuck on a level, these videos will probably help. There's also an alarming amount of crap that you unlock, so beware. Another little quirk in the main menu is sharing scores with each other online, so that deals with some competitive rivalries. Options menu is just as restrained as the game itself. There's only about three certain things you can change, and they usually don't even matter that much.
The overall game is a very welcoming experience into the Sonic series, but some fans that play this game may be yearning for something more.

Sonic and the black knight is OK!
Sonic and the black knight is good or bad depending on the way you see the game. If you see it as a Classic Sonic game you would probably would hate. But if you see it as a new start you would like and enjoy it. Control wise The nunchuck is used to move and Z it to block and to attack swing the Wiimote to slash the sword which is really basic so they are easy to understand. The landscape is decent for some levels but other just made to piss you off.The story in the other hand is confusing the first part of the game you learn that sonic was summoned by Merlin's grand daughter Merlina to save the castle from King Arther. Once you defeat king Arther you are given the four Sacred Swords then you are told that is was just an illusion made by Merlina to get the four Sacred Swords so she can become the new queen then escape and kill the Royal bitch and you won the game. The cut scenes are really good coming from a sonic game but cant stand the comic cut scenes but not really a bad thing. throughout the whole game you will learn that all you do is kill enemies or helping the town folk which can get boring but once you have a boss battle the game goes to awesome and for me the best fight is the fight with king Arther at the end of the first half even if you know what your going can be done it less then 1 minute it is still fun and the music of the the fight just makes it more epic. there still a camera problem that is in the back of you and you have absolutely no control of it makes it difficult when you have to go back if you missed something. But the worst thing in this game is the Multiplayer because the controls seem really dull, the game choices are not fun and the graphic goes from Awesomeness to horrific by going to four players. they looking for a good vs mode would be racing against one another in split screen then instead of one full screen of all four players fighting one another.
In all this game as it flaws but none the less it is still fun and it gets a
4/5

come the fuck down it's a spinoff!!!!
what i hate about the sonic fanbase is wtf the games audience is. sonic unleashed was a harken back to 2d,sonic chronicles was for rpg noobies, and this game, is, not by any extent of the imagination perfect but it's probably, on my list, the most fanservice in existence(besides ssbb). now, now it's on with the review, now before i begin let me apologize at gamepro for misjudging them on the atroscious review of sonic unleashed on the website, i realize now that these reviews on the site and in the magazines, are different, so my apologies gamepro. now people have been saying that the game is too short, well that's wrong and correct. the game has a hidden depth to it, were as missions highlighted with a cross are story missions where as the missions not highlighted, are extras. now my main men at gametrailers, i'm forgiving them once for their slightly fair review of satbk, but still, a quote they mentioned was that these enemies keep coming and interupt the flow, well, yes, but the sword combat is so fast paced it kinda makes up for it a tiny bit. now when you read the title, i mentioned it's a spinoff.*face palm* wtf is wrong! i mean it's a spinoff, not an entry in the main franchise, and wasn't as hyped as alot of other sonic games. Now my favorite part of the game is 2 things. 1. the ability to play as shadow, knuckles and blaze, shadow and blaze are okay but knuckles is not that good at fast paced combat, but he's good for hordes of enemies.2. the boss battles, other than maybe sonic unleashed this games bosses are very epic and contain the first heavy metal(or at least deathmetal vocals go for 2% of the song) crush 40 song. the bosses have this strategy flow to it that i just liked.now the complaints are that the game is short, the sword combat can get repetitive unless you mix it up a bit, they are still going with storybook cutscenes that are now slightly animated but not much. my final complaint is that unless your stats are way up there, the flow can be broken in many places. not better than sonic unleashed, better than sonic and the secret rings, and not in any way a way to destroy the franchise. see ya.

Review:
Sonic and the Black Knight
It's not a good sign when the best parts of the game are the ones where you actually lose control of your character. The best part of any Sonic game should be the speed, so it's nice to have instances of loop-de-loop railroad tracks, corkscrewing steep hills, and buzzing in and out the doors of a mining village. Unfortunately the times you do actually spend playing Sonic and the Black Knight are more frustrating -- and in most cases probably too much so to warrant bothering.
