A quick trip around the blockthen it's over. Still a good game though.
My first thoughts of this game was implied by a friend of mine who said that it would never work out. It'd be too hard to control. It would just plain suck. This game has it's good points and it's bad. Luckily, the good outweigh the bad. The gameplay is very well handled thanks to an excellent control scheme layout. The movement is done by using the control stick and freelook is engaged by pressing right on the d-pad. The game is so well made that you don't use the freelook that often. The controls only get in the way when you try to change weapons too fast, or miss hitting the triangle button again to change your stance. That's easily overlooked. The enemy AI only gets harder by the rate of fire. On the level of Ensign, they wait and then fire. On the level of Commander, they take no chances and have no second thoughts about blowing you away. Unless you can get a headshot first. The zoom controls are just a tad buggy and very few times you'll miss a headshot. But again, that can be overlooked. The graphics look as though it was made for the PS1. That is one of the few downplays of this game. It is very reminiscent of the PS2 versions in the overall looks. But when you get down to the grit and pay attention to the textures, it's very bland. Although I doubt Zipper Interactive was aiming specifically for high-res textrues and aiming for a good game. The locales are excellent in terms of individuality and rarely resemble one another. With the help of a very simple map they can be confusing at first. After playing through, you know what's what. The sound has a very nice quality to it. The voice acting is repetitive sometimes, but often funny. The guns don't really vary in terms of difference, rather they have a silencer on or not. The shotgun, machine gun, and other rifles have no silencer and can be frustrating to use, so you may want ot avoid those. The music has the tendency to just come on at any point in the level. With no enemies around it will just play. Completely random. The background noises aren't very noticeable, but they are there. The value is short. Once you've completed the game, you basically know where everything is and go back through and do all the campaign and instant action missions with little or no problems. If you don't have a way to connect to SOCOM 3 for the PS2, then it's a very short ride. All you can unlock is the Elite SEAL to use in multiplayer. I have yet to play online but plan on doing so in the next few days. I've never been a fan of SOCOM, mainly because I've never bothered to look in to it. I've played SOCOM 1 on the PS2 and killed a guy one round, killed myself and some enemy the next round with a grenade. But this game has given me a little more insight in to what SOCOM is all about.

Review for PSP Socom PSP
The first thing you will notice is the controls, with no 2nd analog stick, you might think this game sucks at first. After passing the first mission, you will love this game, and after playing online, your PSP will never look the same again. The online play is so fun that your battery might run out before you know it. this game is probably the best game on the PSP, yes, I liked it better than GTA: Liberty City Stories, because of the online play. My advice is to buy this game right now. You won't be sorry, trust me.

SOCOM to go
The game is great. It is a great way to take SOCOM on the go when your away from your PS2. The controls are a little weird but is a good game overall.
