Ridge Racer - PSP

Almost perfect

Absolutely loved this game. It was a blast. The controls and graphics blew me away. I am not a super Ridge Racer fan either and I spent hours with this. The only thing keeping it from perfect is the lack of variety in the cars. They all seem to control the same between the 3 drift types, the only difference is speed.

Ridge Racer - PSP

RIDGE RACER...HEAVEN FOR RR FANS!

Little things have improved games in the past and Ridge Racer for the PSP is no exception to that rule. What is different about this title (in addition to the 360 Ridge Racer 6) compared to the previous Ridge Racer games is that the sheer number of races and cars is significantly more than what was shown in past RR games, you have the turbo feature where you fill up three gauges (yellow, orange, and red) for a boost of speed that could be the difference between 2nd and 1st place. Those two recent RR games plus the upcoming RR 7 for the PS3 puts past RR games out to pasture mainly because of the turbo feature and also the RR series tended to bring old tracks to the next installment of RR games which isn't a bad thing but this devalues the older RR games...that's why I'm selling RR 5 real soon. There are 39 (so far) different series to race in which mostly have three tracks to race on each (some have 4 and some have 6) and when you complete those series, you get a new car, an upgrade to max out a car that you have, and some special cars. This really helps the replay value tremendously. I have raced RR games since the orginal RR on the PS1 and I felt that those RR games had good replay values because it was fun to go back and play again and again and again. Also there are old tracks from past RR games in addition to Rage Racer on the PS1 and Rave Racer from the arcades...very nice collection. Since this is my first PSP title, I am not certain of how the graphics on the PSP compare to other games such as GTA: Liberty City Stories and stuff like that but the graphics are pretty good for a handheld game. What is also surprising is no pop ups and the load times are non existent. RR for the PSP was talked about one of those titles that suck the battery life out of your PSP and I believed that hype but if you don't play it for hours straight, you still would get good battery life out of this game. Also when the game loads up you get to play Rally X which is a NAMCO classic and a very nice thing to do while the game loads but the load time is very short. The analog stick on the PSP works GREAT in this game and that makes using the D-pad unnecessary (some people still like that since it's old school RR stuff). It seems like the drifting is getting wackier and crazier which isn't a bad thing because the RR series is based on drift racing which is a big time contrast from games like Gran Turismo and Forenza. The X button is for hitting the gas and square is for braking and that is pretty much all you need to know. The triangle and circle button is used for shifting gears manually. The R shoulder button is for the turbo feature and the L button is to change the view from in front of the car to behind the car (just two views). Now the reason why I gave this a 5.0 rating is because it is FUN TO PLAY! I understand some people don't like the drift style but that's the way the series always have been. I'd rate this as the greatest RR game (haven't played RR6 on the 360 at this point) and you might have heard at E3 about being able to download the PS1 RR games which is very neat. I do not recall GamePro breaking news of a Ridge Racer 2 (also known as Ridge Racers 2 in Japan) which was reported by IGN. That was the reason why I decided to buy Ridge Racer and the PSP itself because I sense that Namco will give us a good supply of RR games on that handheld. For hardcore RR fans, I'd recommend the purchase of a PSP and this game plus the upcoming RR 2 and downloadable PS1 RR games.

DS is a piece of SHlT! It will never have as good of graphics as PSP! It's not as powerful. And also, PS2 is the king. Here it is in consol sales: PS2: 78 million sold Xbox: 15 million sold Camecube: 13 million sold Tell me how the hell Nintendo is the king?! The PSP will kik the DS's ass!
