Far Cry 2, a great game, but could have been even better

Far Cry 2 is truly a great game, with robust visuals and audio, an impressive amount of weapons, and an amazing map editor. Its story mode should easily take you around 30 hours to complete, and the online is decent also. My only complaints are that the story is pretty boring, up until you're like halfway through the game, and it also tends to get a little repetitive at times, but other than that, Far Cry is a great buy.

Far Cry 2 is a truly next gen shooter.

Far Cry 2 is a VERY absorbing game. You have to think about how many bullets are left in your gun, or if its gonna jam, you have to actually repair your car, or self (think prying bullets out of your leg, or injecting yourself with *something* to keep going), and the cockpit driving is great. Running around the African landscape, doing missions to unlock more guns (there are LOTS of guns :]) or safehouses, or just get money is a blast. The graphics are GREAT, and setting fire to stuff is really fun. The open world is something pretty new to the FPS genre, and this game does it well, except that it gets old having to driving for ten minutes every time you want to do something. My only other complaint is that the gameplay gets a little old, though new guns and vehicles help somewhat, and the story sucks pretty bad. Vote if you read please, thanks.

well....

Far Cry 2 is a descent game. The map editor is probably the coolest thing I've seen in a while. There is almost no story whatsoever (ex: go here, kill him, blow up him, kill him again...etc.) Not to mention it takes litterally about 10 minutes to make it to a mission because of the massive map, and the invulnerable A.I. . The visuals are amazing, and the weapon loadout is great, most missions are fun but the annoying 5 sec respawn time of each A.I. unit makes for repetitive gameplay.

One of the greatest First Person shooters in gaming history.

This is one of those games that came with so little fanfare that i was expecting it to be decent at best... boy was i wrong, it eliminated the bad taste that the 360 Far Cry game left me with.
The game starts and instantly makes you feel tense with the war going on in the game, and from there it keeps getting more intense. The game story is awesome, but it isn't presented too much, a few snippets of the story here and there and that's it, but the story's really interesting and it's endgame is EPIC. I'll just say that the villain of the game, The Jackal, is one of the coolest and most bad ass villains in video games, the audio tapes of him are chilling.
The game is awesome because of the was it plays, imagine a FPS GTA and you would have a great idea of the game, you have your main missions, your side missions and the like. And unlike normal shooters it's a freeform shooter, meaning that you take your mission ( or just wander around for a while exploring if you want) go to your target, but what happens in between is always a little adventure( how many times i have been intercepted by tangos and forced to jump into a river, make a forceful retreat and go another way and more unscripted action scenes like this that YOU decide). While you play, you'll save buddies from some missions and they give you side quests and save you when you are killed, and it's one of the most intense parts of the game, he or she saves you and then take on the tangos, and if they down your buddy you have to rescue him/ her by jamming a syringe into his/ her chest to heal them, and it's one of the most mentally taxing moments when you can't save your buddy and have to either comfort your buddy to a peaceful death or mercy kill your buddy ( if your lacking health syringes) and kill him/ her in cold blood.
You can buy guns and upgrades and it gives it a really small rpg element, and the gun selection is awesome, ranging from Assault rifles, to submachine guns, to machine guns, sniper rifles and more.
It's a surreal experience, when you play this game, the visual effects ( from branches and leaves falling of when you blow something near them, the amazing lighting and shadows, the way that grass catches on fire and the way the winds push that fire in the direction it's blowing, the great physics, the awesome weather system, cars kicking up dust realistically and more touches like that) to the great audio ( great voice acting, satisfying gunfire and explosions sounds, the way a weapon sounds when it's jammed, the ambient sounds of Africa , which are awesome, and more). But all those amazing effects complement the gameplay, you can literally play it YOUR way, and it's a surreal and organic experience checking your map ( in game, another great touch) to look for the best position to strike from, you can be as sneaky as you want, going in guns blazing, snipe them from afar and etc. The game is also really immersive everything is from the first person view and it feels amazing, the way that your eyes react to the light ( as in real life) and more visual effects like that. Plus guns get old with it's usage and if you don't get a new one they'll jam and even break.
Graphics: 5.0
Sound: 5.0
Controls: it's super tight and precise, 5.0
Fun Factor: 5.0
The only thing i can find negative with this game is by nitpicking, there should have been more wild life ( specially predatory), they should have let you explore the two game play areas, but after the half way point and the last stretch of the game they won't let you go back to them. Buy this game if you are a gamer that loves FPS and always wanted a more immersible, longer and more complex experience, you won't regret it, it really moved shooters forward.
