horror fans must play

man, I rented this and it was still f'ing good. you know, still Silent Hill good. yes the others are classics and actual gameplay has never been a strong suit with this series. It's not RE4 or Dead Space which are scary and kick ass to play. But it still is creepy as hell, the sound is excellent and the experience is a good one. rent, buy whatever, but you must play it through.

This is a great game, despite some of the unfair reviews!!

Silent Hill: Homecoming is just as good if not better than the previous Silent Hills. Some of the reviews, including this site, have been too harsh and unfair about the game. The most common complaints I keep hearing about are sloppy controls, linear story telling, and some of the visuals are sub par. First off, when I checked off "unresponsive controls" under cons, I'm ONLY referring to some of the combat controls. The controls in the game are good overall, it's just when you're swinging weapons like the axe and pipe, it just seems like the character isn't swinging fast enough and you leave yourself open for attacks. Basically it just comes down to timing though.

The story, although not really original by any means, is still a good story with some twists and turns and some freaky moments as well. As far as the graphics go, they're great throughout most of the game. The environments have that classic, grainy Silent Hill look to them, it's just everything looks better because of the PS3's muscle. The character models looks great and fairly detailed, while the lighting effects are slick looking as well.

The monsters that you encounter are just as scary as ever and the audio just adds to the already freakish atmosphere. So bottom line is if you're a Silent Hill fan, this game is worth a purchase, I don't say that about too many games as most games should be $20 bargain bin games, and if you're sitting on the fence about the game, then rent it at least.
