This game is great.

Before i say anything about the game i will say that i am not a fan of any of the previous UFC or fight night games, or even really most of the fighting game genre. But, this game is really, really great. It has some of the best graphics i have ever seen, is very addicting, and the multiplayer is great, online or off.

It has a really good "create your fighter feature, which includes choosing your name, hometown, nickname, hair, division, tattoos, body, shorts (length, color, type, sponsorships), fighting and wrestling You then then assign skill points to your health (cardio), stamina, and strength, and then all of your skills.

In the campaign you start as a fighter that has just joined the UFC, and work your way up the ranks until you eventually become champion of your division. Another great mode is the Classic Fights mode, in which you play a previously fought UFC fight and try to get the same outcome as in the real fight (for instance win by KO in the second round), winning you clips of the real fight.

Overall, I give UFC 2009 Undisputed a 4.5/5.

Not a lot of thought

First off I'm a huge fan of the UFC and affiliates, but this game isn't that great. There wasn't a whole lot of thought into this game at all. Flash knockout <--- stupid system idea, do you know how many times there is actually a flash knockout in the UFC 7 to maybe 8 a year if that. The submission's in this game are horrible when your opponent has no stamina and you have a ton of it but still manages to choke you out. Unless you are smoking crack or using steroids this can't happen (system cheats). There is way to much transitioning in this game when working on the ground. You will get one or two opponents that will out wrestle you, drain you of your stamina, and they proceed to pound the dog pooh out of you (system cheats). Now for the good things. Character movement is excellent, nice detail on the fighters and the ring girls. Credit system is kinda cool to unlock promotions and fight gear. Being able to go to different camps and train with other UFC fighters was sweet. If there would have been a lot more thought into the game it would have been awesome, but I will say this it's a great improvement over the sega dreamcast UFC game. The UFC should have came out with a game 5 years ago. If you are looking for a decent fighting game this is it, but expect to get mad and say WTF repeatedly LOL, cause it will happen. I hope they come out with a new version soon.

UFC 2009 Undisputed - PS3

Ufc-fans have had to wait more than five years for a legitimate recreation of their favorite animalistic activity. Now, they're being greeted with UFC 2009 Undisputed, the first in what hopes to be a long-running franchise built from the ground up by THQ and the development team at Yuke's Media Creations. Because we've had to wait so long before venturing back to the virtual octagon, there's a ton of pressure on this UFC game to accurately depict the complexities of the sport while still making it a blast to pummel your opponent's head into chunky gravy. Did they succeed? Keep reading to find out.

Addicting!

This game is no button masher. If you button mash vs someone who is actually good at this game, you will lose 10 out of 10 times. The controls are pretty technical and take a little bit of time to get used to, but it should be that way. This isn't a boxing game where you just punch your opponents. In MMA you punch, kick, knee, elbow, clinch, grapple, throw.....and the list goes on. So therefore the controls have to be more sophisticated.

This game is very addicting. It's so fun to plummel your opponents until they bleed everywhere and eventually knock 'em out. I wish there was more to the career mode. I also wish they showed octagon entrances, like in Fight Night.

Overall, I'd give this game a 4.5/5.

UFC 2009-Overated

Great initial output for an MMA fight game. I was hoping for something along the UFC's slogan "As real as it gets"... but I only got about half of that. I'm sure that these reviews are full of armchair blackbelts and 24/7 gamers...mixed in with these reviews hopefully are a few true mixed martial arts fighters (as I am) who also indulge in a little gaming.

The stand up is not too bad...circling is way too slow and the ability to unload a barrage of punches is hindered by input delay it seems regardless of how fast you are with the buttons...or how high your speed rating is in the game. Flying knees, superman punch, hooks, level changing is all done quite well.

The downside of this game is the ground fighting. The intent is there...the ability to execute and the high percentage of getting half guard, side-control and mount is ridiculous. I have improved my character in all areas to the point that taking me down, getting full mount etc...should be very difficult...alas myself, the AI and online players are able to accomplish this quite easy...and this should not be the case.

When on the ground and against the cage I should be able to walk my back up the cage and escape the ground game. Rubber guard is nice...but a rarity in MMA except for Eddie Bravo's guys and BJJ freaks like BJ Penn. My biggest problem is that there is not any evidence of a closed guard...or butterfly guard. Of course it's easy to transition from open guard to half guard to side control...the legs of the fighter in the down position are not used properly at all. There's no option of a high closed guard...or a body lock. These are KEY parts of defense while being on your back.

A good stepping stone (ala Elvis Sinosic) but much work needs to be done....OH and hardly anyone attempts or succeeds at a kneebar straight out of full open guard...simple defense is to push them off when their back is turned-which is a sin in combat sports all together.

Looking forward to UFC 2010.
