Heavenly Nariko

I had higher hopes for Heavenly Sword. The graphics are amazing, but sooner rather than later, it just gets to where you are going through the motions. I do however love the levels where you can guide arrows and cannon balls, etc. Other than that, this game only barely saves with me due to the lovely Nariko, who sounds strangely like Cate Blanchett, and the great voice/motion capture actor Andy Serkis. Overall there isn't much to the game though. I like it but I won't recommend buying it. I suggest you rent it. You can beat it before it's due back anyhow.

Good But Boring!

So I borrow "Heavenly Sword" from my friend, and he made it seem to be a classic, but when I first played it I thought wow this is kinda badass, but when I reviewed it I notice it was a god of war ripoff with cool ass visuals. I hated the boss fights it was kinda of boring, enemies take to long to die, and it seems they tried to hard to make her a bad ass.

Heavenly Sword - PS3

Pros Cons
Tight controls Poor storytelling
Intense action Repetitive gameplay
Awesome game but a mere tide-me-over until God of War III.

This game goes into the category of hack-n-slash action games, a category that has been dominated by the GoW series. But what makes this stand out from GoW is the weapon and the massive amount of enemies. Hundreds upon hundreds of foot soldiers are squeezed in the screen. The weapon is fantastic too. The ability to instantly switch it to a different mode allows for some eye-popping combos and devastating moves. Overall, this is a must own for any fans of the GoW series.

  • Aug. 24, 2007 Review: Heavenly Sword

Before I start, here's a quick disclaimer: I am going to reference God of War in this review--a lot. That's because the development team behind Heavenly Sword ripped a lot of chapters out of David Jaffe and Corey Barlog's playbook. It's not a stretch to think of this title as 'Goddess of War' as it also features a complex narrative that centers on a troubled main character and is married to a deep and substantial combat system.
