Ultimate Spider-Man - PS2

This game was rushed.

Let me first start by saying this that I am a BIG fan of spiderman, he is my favorite superhero. This game however, does not live up to the great spiderman franchise. First off let me say that I like the cell shading textures, and the lightsources that can bounce off spidey at any time, but other than that this game leaves me feeling empty inside. Let me explain why... Last year's release of spiderman 2 was nothing short of phenomenal, It seemed to do all the right things from web swinging to fighting bad guys, wall crawling, running ect. This game however, does more of the "same old same old" The game is unbelivably short and the A.I. of the boss characters are elementary at best, I was done with the entire adventure in about an hour and a half. This will not do, also the lack of diverse fighting teqniuques also hurts this title. In spiderman 2 you were able to purchase moves via "the spiderman store" to upgrade your hero as you saw fit. In ultimate spiderman, the moves automatically upgraded as you progressed further into the game taking away a very needed sense of control and customization. Also the spider sense in this title is a complete joke. Spiderman doesn't jump out of the way of everything, he dodges as seen in spiderman 2. I'm sorry, adding venom to the mix does not make up for the sloppiness of this rushed title. I'll admit that playing venom at first was exciting, but I quickly grew tired of him because of the lack diversity and depth in his moves and his mobility. To make a long story short kids, spiderman 2 was a much better game in all of the catagories, this game feels like treyarch and activision recycled bits of spiderman 2 and put them into the cell shading machine like refried beans, and whats worse they left all the cool spidey elements out and put boring stuff like "save the fool that keeps getting stuck on the edge of the damn building" This game could ahve been so much better than it was.

Ultimate Spider-Man - PS2

A Challange

All I want to do is challange any REAL gamer to pass unllimited spiderman in two days by just playing one hour per day. I passed it in two days with an hour a day. I thought this game was about the same as spiderman 2 only with new characters. My favorite character was Venam and I recamend this game anyone who wants a action adventure games.

Ultimate Spider-Man - PS2

Much of the Same

Since Spider-Man 2 was released, and we all got to swing around an actual living model of real-life New York City, everyone has been eagerly awaiting the next installment. And why not, that was arguably the best superhero/movie game of all time. And if you want more swinging, web slinging, bad guy bringing to justice, then this is the game for you. And if you were hoping for something a little more, you're in luck, because good ol' Venom is on the roster this time around. And while swinging through the city as Spider-Man, gracefully pulling off the most acrobatic moves, and storming through the city, crushing everything that moves, and then crushing everything that doesn't move is fun; it gets old, really fast. The same thing that has plagued movie games and superhero games since they began, is still here. This game is short. And not like "fifty meter sprint" short, more like the life span of "The Jeff Foxworthy Show", short. There is only about 2-5 hours of story here, and after that, you can finally get what the developers promised. You can play as Venom any time your heart desires. But since all there is to do is destroy the same things, and brutalize the same unintelligent police officers, and unsuspecting public. This game does what it set out to do, which was to make another good Spider-Man game, but what made the previous Spider-Man game great, was the fact that it tried something new. Ultimate Spider-Man doesn't try much new, but it pulls it off with grace. And even though cell-shading has been done so much it makes me want to cry, it only fits with spider man. If you're a fan of Spider-Man, pick this up; if you loved Spider-Man 2, chances are you'll love this; if you like mindlessly destroying things, well why not you too, pick this up; but if you're looking for inovation, you won't find it here.
