A Real Fun Game
When I heard Marc Ecko was being involved in a video game I quickly thought this game was not going to be great I've liked the man's past work and clothing line but now he wants to do a videogame? naw. So I decided to give it a try and I have to say this game is really good, it went really past my expectations. You are Trane and a graf artist and you want to get your name up and get respect. You might think the graffiti is all you do in the game but it is not it has an innovative combat system (if you liked The Warriors you're going to love this one), it has Prince of Persia inspired acrobatics as you try to get to "heaven spots" to get your name up. As your progress through the game you unlock combo moves and you come across IPOD's laying around the city to unlock songs and the soundtrack to the game has to be one of the best out there featuring Talib Kweli, Pack FM, Jane's Addiction, Fort Minor, Rakim, Bloc Party, and many other great artists it even has Serj Tankian from System of a Down who contributed a remix of Notorious B.I.G.'s "Who Shot Ya?" The game also has a stellar cast to do the voice acting such as Talib Kweli, Giovanni Ribisi, Charlie Murphy, Brittany Murphy, and many more. Overall the game is great it really went over my expectations that i had. Marc Ecko really contributed something great to this game and it's something different than many games out there. Seeing as it displays a Marc Ecko Games logo on the boxart it seems we could expect more great video games from this team and i can't wait.

Art is Graffiti
For those who are just getting into the world of graffiti, this is the game for you. Marc Ecko's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure is an excellent mix of the Grand Theft Auto series with the legendary StyleWars movie. Not only does the player get to tag all over the city of New Radius, but also fight the Civil COnduct Keepers (CCK) on his way to becoming a graffiti legend. Trane, the main character, is exceptionally voiced by the rapper Talib Kweli. More voice talent is provided by Charlie Murphy, as 'White Mike', and Brittany Murphy, as the news reporter. This is not a run-of-the-mill generic graffiti game, mind you. With talented figures such as SmithSANE, T-KID, Futura2000, COPE2, CES, and Shepard Fairey, aka OBEY, supplying their skills, among many others, this game knows what graffiti is all about. If you're worried about tagging or fighting to wack music, have no fear: the game is loaded with an excellent soundtrack. From Mobb Deep, Rakim, P.Diddy, the Notorious B.I.G., all the way to System of a Down. There is no going wrong with this game.

gamepro is on drugs and writes nerdy far-from-reality reviews
"and I would plan the sequel to be much more Jet Set than GTA." qoute gamepro reviewer... if you liked jetset for that than you have no idea about graffitie, GettingUp isnt bad because it isnt like Jet Set and is like GTA thats no reason, maybe for your community of alcoholics and schoolkids, but no reason for a gamer dedicated for gameing and fresh ideas... you are so lame its unbelievable theres a reputated mag and a Site from some format behind that crap... get back to mom and get some infos first...

This reviewer knows not what he speaks, or is out of touch with graf life..
When this reviewer compared this game to Jet Set Radio he lost all credibility. Jet Set Radio was a great game but it was an abomination and a disgrace to the art of writing. Slamming this game on the damage is also a tacky low blow, the low damage leads to accessibility so novice gamers, say those interested in the cultures this draws from (Hip Hop, Urban, Skating) would be able to hop in and revel in the thrill of scaling towers, repelling down buildings and dodging trains to bomb a hot site. Mark Ecko's getting up is a triumph, a true homage to the art of writing. This reviewer doesn't know much about its history, because all of Trane's adventures tie into the adventures of true writers of the day and the obstacles and chances they took to make their marks seen. I am disappointed that Gamepro chose rather trivial matter to slash this review on. The controls work excellently, and once you learn the combos and fight mechanics is a real thrill, as are all the death defying jumps Trane must take to hit certain spots. The Freeway stage in particular provides the opportunity to scale to an insane height and look down at the interlocked freeways and traffic zooming by. The climb and thrill I received from this moment and others were great. The graphics glitch about the train is also a pathetic thing to lambaste, and it sounds like the reviewer had difficulty playing, possibly due to lack of skills, and focused on something as trivial as the lack of a cracked window on a train. Please, that is so trivial it is pathetic. All of the boss fights were a real treat, and a fun challenge, all the jumps exciting and some of them jaw dropping. This game should be praised. What it does it does well: Celebrate the risks, and art of writing. One of the most authentic featured in a game, and the next person that compares Getting Up with the (good) but blasphemous game Jet Set Radio are obviously too old or not knowledgeable about the history.
