Not dissapointing but not as good as 1,2 and 3

Again the graphics improved and the controls improved but it didn't top its predecessors. I didn't like how there was no town to run around in and how some of the ghosts couldn't be killed( only held down by a knife). But its still a good story, with good puzzle and creatures. It's still a member of the silent hill family.

Freaky!!!

Very fun and entertaining game. Not as scary as DOOM but pretty freaky when you play with the lights off! OOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo A little easy, i beat this game in only 2 days. Trade it in or something when you win because you won't play this game again after you beat it.

Room with a view?

I don't know how many more of these they can pump out before they go to the next gen systems. I enjoyed 2 and 3 even though the graphics are not up to PS2 standards. Number 4 they tried to bring something new to the series but new isn't always better. You start out being locked in your apartment and you find a hole to travel to different areas like a prison and forest. They have save points in the game but they are holes that you have to travel back to the apartment. This can be a pain sometimes. They also have wandering ghosts that attack you but they come back again and again. There are some cheap hits in the game, areas that have ghouls coming out of the walls to drain your life bar. I hope they redesign the series and I can't wait to see what they do for PS3. If you're a fan buy it, otherwise take it for a spin first.

The Freakshow

Here is a game that falls under the dubious distinction of "Not a Bad Game, Just a Disappointing One." Silent Hill 4: The Room is decent. But with the previous two titles being as great as they were, more was expected from the fourth installment. Silent Hill builds the series around Storyline. A twisted story with baddies so twisted even Stephen King himself would refer somebody to a shrink. The grainy camerawork adds to the atmosphere of dread and being in a totally different world. However, the sadist story and freakshow aren't enough to carry the game. The major innovation to the gameplay is selecting weapons in real time, but most of the fighting is using your melee weapon of choice batting down the monstosities that come your way. Just save your bullets for a boss battle or a tight situation, which hardly ever occurs. Also, you wonder around your apartment, in which a huge chunk of the game takes place, and you do it in first person view. The scare- factor for this situation doesn't seem to be fully realized. In short, viewing the cutscenes, watching the story unfold and looking at the freaked out creatures the people at Konami conjured up is more enjoyable than the gameplay which is plays out as about as well and fast as watching paint dry. More could have been done with this game, but it wasn't. This game will be a great pick-up for fans of the series. The gameplay takes a back seat to story and visuals, and it shows.
