Summary
Game Description
Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy by Midway for the PS2 is an action game that tests the player's ultimate weapon: the mind. Formerly known as ESPionage, Psi-Ops is set in a near-future environment dominated by technology and order. Players take on the role of Nick Scryer, an elite American Psi-Operative soldier who must combat a fierce terrorist organization set to overthrow world order. Scryer fights a horde of brainwashed super soldiers by using his Psionic powers, including Telekinesis (lift and throw people and items using mental powers), Pyrokinesis (throw walls of fire), and Mind Control (control another character's body). The only way for Scryer to stop The Movement and its Psi agents is to use his psionic powers and beat them at their own "mind game."

wow, can someone say overly violent?
Psi-ops is one of the best action games i've played this year. The Psi- powers are really cool. I personally like using TK to throw people into ovens and pools of acid. I also like MC to make weak-minded fools walk off bridges and watch guys heads explode after using MD. The story was a little lame, but because of the fun factor of this game I still give it a 5.0

Psi-Ops Great gameplay but crappy story
First the good stuff, you are Nick Scryer a special agent working for Mindgate a goverment funded organization that specializes in psi powers. You get a fist full of psi powers which include TK,MD,MC, RV, PK and AV.The graphics are very well done, the controls are very easy to pic up and its very fun. i also thought th rag doll physics were kind of neet. There's a load of special features which is a huge plus. Now the Disapointments, first of all the multiplayer is the worst thing ever, you and another player have to co operate with each other while one player controls aiming and movement, the other player controls shooting, and psi powers. at first it sounds interesting and on paper it seems to work, but what if you play with an inexperienced gamer or a person who just can't get used to controls this part of the game becomes extremely frustrating. second there is no sense of challenge. every time a certain obstacle appears in the game you unlock a new psi power, example: you are in the cort yard of o factory and there are a bunch of MP's and you don't know what to do, if you reach a specific point of that area you undergo psi training( in this case you learn Mind Control).Third, the dialogue and story is very disapointing, some of the dialogue doesn't even make sense. The story starts off well but then it goes from farely realistic to paranormal. an example of this is when you are told that you have to stop the threat of the terrorist agency The Movement. It sounds good and simple but then you discover that they are going after this object called the Monolyth. The last issue is that when you were playing in the psi practice room you encouter some mager slow down when attacking the guards with the psi ball. Dispite all the bad things in the game, it is fun and that is what games are for, to entertain us, it is interesting and it has many unlockable features which will make gamers wanting to play more of it. overall it is a good game if you can get past its problems

the best game i've played in a while.
geez, where do i begin. i just beat this one but i'm not gonna hand out spoilers. go rent this one if not buy it. it's that good. the graphics, 4.5. very few minor glitches but the whole game looks great. although the pyrokenisis effect could have been a little better. other than that this game is pretty well polished and full of nice little touches. wait till you see a train car being thrown at you, but uhh, you better run. sound gets a 4.5 too. background music changes smoothly when the situation changes or for environmental effect. the dialog from enemy soldiers is great and pretty funny on occassion. cutscenes feature pretty good voice acting and sound effects do their job. control = 5.0. no other way to put it. the touch sensitive feature on telekinesis feels very natural. movement and targeting does what it's asked to do, it's something you don't have to think about, which is good. fun factor = 5.0. i had a blast. this game is less about who has the bigger gun and more about your psionic powers. once you get telekinesis, you'll have a lot of fun tossing stuff around. i mean EVERYTHING not bolted down or weighing a few tons. not only that, you can climb up on top of a crate or something relatively flat and go psi-surfing. mind control and pyrokinesis are pretty useful and fun as well. remote viewing and aura view are handy to have. playing the game is very flexible, many ways to take care of bad guys. all in all, this game is very well thought out and executed. if you miss this one, you'd better kick yourself very hard.

The most Innovative Game in the last five years (XBOX version)
I have rarely been so satisfied with a game after I've finished it. I can fondly remember throwing my enemy from my grip into an incinerator, upon which flame shot out and ignited another. There are many creative invironmental hazards similar to this, each with their own satisfying outcome. The abilities at your disposal are telekinesis, pyrokinesis (shoot flame from your hands and have it ignite the ground), mind drain (which can make you enemy's heads go *POP*, and recovers your psi energy), a sort of out body experience where you can spy through doors, mind control (self explanatory) and aura vision, a sortof radar vision. The way that these can be used are left up to the player, and it's rather satisfying to use them in a way not immediately obvious. If you see someone high up on a ledge with another trying to pick you off with a rifle, you have a few options. Maybe you can telekinetically chuck them off the building and have their bodies smash into a metal crate, and allow the absolutely outstanding rag doll ohysics gaive it an eerie sense of realism. Or mind possess one, have him kill his friend, then hop right off the building. Or just pick up a container behind him throw it at him from behind, causing him to be killed from the blow and just ave his lifeless body plummet to the ground. All, however, feel profoundly gratifying. The game would still get a fairly good score if it was just run-n-gun, as those mechanics work fairly well, too. But you'll only resotr to them in conjunction with your powers. And I really could not see the powers, most especially telekinesis, control any better. A definite highlight that makes it all the more worth it is an impressive, pulse pounding boss fight with one of your former, telekinetic using partner. You start out small, flinging pieces of scrap metal at eachother. But by the time you get out side, he begins chucking containers the size of trucks at you, and it becomes a harrowing experience. Buy this game, love it!

Great Game! At one time, I thought i should be called Psi Oops
Psi Ops is certainly a one of a kind. What other game can you pick up enemies with your psionic powers and slam them against the wall? It has a good story line, music, and control. Gameplay is good except for a big glitch while fighting one of the bosses. I recommending just renting it. It has some replay value, but not enough to go out and buy it.
