GTC: Africa - PS2

Its ok

This game could of been better.Simple stuff, really. Nice intro video and some excellent graphics. Nothing special to send to mom.Just like Gran Turismo 3 S-spec, GTC Africa uses the sun with great affect. Excellent heat effects, reflections, and dust effects, too, though the texture work and res aren't great.Weird production problems affect the overall quality, and the pseudo techno-African music is really just filler stuff. The likeable physics engine, excellent course design and variety are GTC's best qualities. Good core rally racing. With 19 courses, a two-player mode, and extra challenges, this game has strong legs. It'll keep you busy.

Worth a test drive

There's no other way to do this review then compare it to Gran Turismo 3. When I first started playing this game I didn't like it. After playing it awhile and getting used to the controls I started to really enjoy it. The graphics are very well done but don't quite match the quality of GT3. You just don't get the reality rush of GT3. The controls take some getting used to since the cars are kinda floaty. The competition is good and makes for an exciting ride. I'm glad that they include other racers in the mix because I hate racing alone like in other sims. There's plenty of cool tracks and they can be quite challenging. I don't like music when I'm racing so I can't tell you about that. The sounds are okay but you don't get that wind blowing against your car like GT3. You don't have to get licences in this game which gives it a plus over GT3. All in all a great racer if you give it a chance. Priced right too at $30.
