Summary

Game Description

Grand Theft Auto III by Rockstar for the PS2 features a fully 3D living city, a combination of narrative driven and non-linear gameplay, and a completely open environment. GTAIII represents a huge leap forward in interactive entertainment. For the first time, players are put at the heart of their very own gangster movie, and let loose in a fully-realized three-dimensional city, in which anything can happen and probably will.

Groundbreaking!

This game changed everything in the Sandbox category. This game was the reason i bought a PS2, i could not believe what could be done in this game! It was great playing the role of mob worker. I cannot imagine what gaming would be like without the Grand Theft Auto series!

and nothing was ever the same

The game is pretty unplayable by today's standards, but I will never forget the first time I took a baseball bat to a pedestrian's head. It was the first time I actually stopped playing for a moment and said to my self "dear God... What...What have I done?"

My college room mates and I did nothing but play this game for two days straight.

The game that started it all....

Arguably, this is one of the most import video games ever created. Before 2001, most games were incredibly linear in nature. After this bad boy showed up, gaming was never the same. Never before has there been this much freedom for players. Taking place in Liberty City, a crime infested New York city, where you can pretty much go anywhere you can imagine within the city limits. You can either follow the story line missions, or simply ignore them and blow s@#t up. As a nameless mute character, your basically an errand boy for crooks and complete goals for them. You can steal cars, and give the police one hell of a collective migraine. The story is pretty well done, but the graphics are primitive and ugly even by PS2 standards. Glitchs and pop ups are not uncommon either; gameplay is serviceable, but would take many installments to perfect the formula. As is, GTA III is one kick ass game and a good time waster. Rockstar from here on, keeps breaking the boundaries of what's possible and keeps improving upon itself.
