  • E3 Impressions: Bioshock

We got an in-depth look at one of the most hotly anticipated titles around and here's a shocker: it looks damn good.

  • BioShock

The year is 1960. I'm flying home on a red-eye transatlantic flight. Packed into my coach seat I flip through my passport as I finish off the last of my burning cigarette. Turbulence gently rocks the cabin as the fasten seatbelt sign illuminates the dimly lit cabin. From behind a stewardess is calling out to me in a rather contemptuous voice.

2K Announces Bioshock As an Exclusive Xbox 360 and Games for Windows Title

  • BioShock: A Classic in the Making

BioShock is the spiritual successor to System Shock 2, a groundbreaking but survival-horror shooter designed by Irrational Games in 1999. Judging by our early experience with BioShock, the game might be even more risky and inspired than System Shock 2. Needless to say, it looked phenomenally promising.

''Under the Sea...''

Now please ignore my Little Mermaid reference in the title, and let's proceed to this game's review. Bioshock, a first person shooter from 2k, brings a unique new experience to gamers with its customization options, haunting story, great atmosphere and sound. The game takes place under the sea, in a fictional under water city called Rapture. The game is dated in the past, (I'd say around the 20s) and gives off a mournful, yet mysterious vibe. You soon realize that the place that you have been dropped into is a failed civilization filled with genetic mutants, and demented corruption all around you. The graphics are impressive, but what stands out the most is the water effects. The water in this game just looks so real. And since you are in a city under water, you feel that you have been consumed by the aquatic demon. You have the ability, in the game, to inject yourself with genetic modifying plasmids that give you several powers, from shooting out electricity, to incinerating the inhuman beasts that wait for you. You traverse the under water haven, and have the ability to hack into computers, customize your weapons, and take out your opponents in many different ways. The fact that the game gives you so many options when it comes to getting past enemies broaden the sense of exploration in the game. The audio score is great, the story is as crazy as the 'people' you see, and the possibilities are endless. The game gives you so many decisions to make, and draws you into the world that is Rapture. Bioshock is a great game that should be experienced by everyone. Though it is a first person shooter, it does not have multiplayer. This is very easily overlooked, because an addition like that could only spoil this already masterful game.

Under the sea...

I have to say the PC version is a little bit better, if just only in the visuals, but still a little bit better. This is about one of the top 3 best visuals in a game yet, and the story is amazing. Controls are great, overall it is one of my all time favorites.

BioShock - PC

yes

great game. took a while to understand storyline, but i finally got it. stuck underwater. get out without getting killed. Collect a bunch of stuff to get out and beat the game.

BioShock - PC

A fresh take on a standard genre

Let's just say it was a breath of fresh air since UT2004 and HL2. Here's a FPS with a little action RPG flair. If you dig playing a single player story rather than multiplayer then bioshock is worth grabbing. You're taken through a good story based in a stunning art-deco style city. It is fairly linear, but you will have plenty to shoot at and more than enough game evolution. The tonics and plasmids give you something that you really don't get in an FPS... customizable weapon and tactics(barring some ww2 games). I'd recommend it for someone looking for something a little different. And if you have the computer to handle it please turn those settings up.. .looks wonderful.

I was bioshocked

I have been keeping up with bioshock for about a year before it was released, and every new screenshot made me want it more and more. I was afraid it was going to be a huge letdown like lost planet, boy was a wrong. The very beginning of the game I was dead to the outside world. Icould not take my eyes off the screen. I love how you constantly hear enemies talking rambling in the background. I had read how hard the big daddies where, but i didn't beleive it untill the first time i hit one with my shotgun. I had planned on buying the 360 version but it was soldout so i went with the PC version, and i was not disapointed, the graphics are out of this world along with the sound. BUY THIS GAME, PLAY IT.
