Summary

Game Description

Gauntlet Legends by Midway for N64 is a 3D action title and upgrade of the classic four-player arcade game. Play as one of four legendary heroes -- Warrior, Valkyrie, Wizard, or Archer -- each with unique attributes and weaknesses. Progress through seven kingdoms and encounter sub-quests and secret areas. Players become stronger, faster, tougher, and have a greater mastery of magic as they continue on their journey. They can also team up for four-player cooperative game play: Cooperative multiplayer allows gamers to help each other fight through the worlds, uncover the hidden traps, and unravel the secrets needed to beat the game.

Gauntlet Legends - N64

Pros Cons

Gauntlet Legends for the N64

The game is easy to pick up and play. Not bad looking. The controls are fairly responsive and the audio is reasonable, but there are some words that can be difficult to make out. Straight forward hack& slash game, not quite, since there are switches that must be found in each level as you progress. They are not easy to find, but are necessary. Since it is the way for finding special items and unlocking certain gateways or some paths. There are also special items to locate for use on specific bosses in the game, making some fights a little easier.

The game unfortunately, can become very boring. Its a good game that suffers from being too repetitive. Only play it for a hour or so if you're by yourself. The games lasting appeal is the ability for up to four people to play. It is definitely a multiplayer game though. You can play it by yourself, but I don't recommend it. Despite some annoyances with the game, I would recommend anyone that doesn't have it for the N64 to get it and hack the night away with a couple of friends.

The phrase "Blue Wizard needs food, badly" and dozens more just like it haunted the dreams of gamers everywhere after the release of the original Gauntlet. After Gauntlet Legends was cast down into arcades, it was only a matter of time until it battled its way onto the consoles. The N64 version makes for a heckuva good time, but even with the expansion pack the graphics suffer.
