Metroid: Zero Mission - GBA

One of the best side scrolling games ever for the GBA

I know this review is way past its due but I wanted to post this review because it is a terrific game!

M:ZH is basically a remake of the original Metroid for the NES. A lot of remakes do end up falling short because of the changes that are made to the game itself. Sure there are changes made to this game but they are very positive changes.

M:ZH's graphics are pretty much similar to the Super NES smash hit Super Metroid and that is nothing short of amazing for a handheld system and that includes the PSP and DS.

The big changes that I said were good were the addition of a map instead of the password based system, a few other weapons such as the charge beam and the ability to run fast which came from the SNES hit game.

And when you beat this game, the original Metroid game is unlocked and you can play this game which makes this GBA game a two games in one package that is GREAT!

Some stories never get old.

Played the original Metroid for the NES? You probably remember how infuriatingly hard it was. Of course, that didn't stop the franchise from growing. The original spawned sequels galore, bringing Samus onto each Nintendo system since the NES in some form. Now Nintendo has taken a stroll down Memory Lane by remaking the original and slapping a new title on it: Metroid Zero Mission. The basic storyline is the same - Space Pirates on Zebes with a giant brain trying to grow a bunch of life-sucking jello molds to take over the universe. Of course, once you defeat the brain and save the universe, something else happens - something not in the original game. I won't say what, but it's certainly a cool twist, and one you certainly won't mind, since it prolongs the game, and you should be having a blast with it by now. The controls have been adapted wonderfully to the GBA. It takes almost no time to figure out what all the buttons do, and the missions you undertake are fun even while not testing you too much. The game is short and will probably take you two or so hours to complete, but the replayability value is so great that you'll definitely want to experience this one over and over again.

I've had it for over a year...

...and I'm still playing it! It's my favorite side scrolling Metroid game. I've been addicted to it these past days (even though I've had it since May '04). It's like a cross between Metroid Prime and Metroid. It pulls the Metroid and Metroid Prime stories together. The graphics are picture perfect, the sound is great for a handheld game, and the controls are simple yet deep. It also includes the original Metroid as an unlockable. So now you have two games in one! This is obviously a must buy for any Metroid fan. But even if you've never played a Metroid game, you must give this a try. It's challenging, fun, a little short, and the perfect handheld game. I've had it in my DS for months!

Metroid: Zero Mission - GBA

stupid piece of junk

this is supposed to be a faithful replication of the first metroid game. well its not. there are a bunch of abilities that didnt even exist in the first game. along with ridley and kraid being in there super metroid forms. plus in the first game the mother brain never had an eye. if i could i'd give this game a 0 but they dont let you. so in conclusion i must say the title speaks for itself, zero mission, as in the mission as done in the game never existed. so if youre a major metroid fan like me dont be fooled by this sham of a game. just dont.

Better Than Fusion

This game is pretty cool. Stays original to the story, and offers a lot of background on the ancient chozo people. Its takes you through a few surprises. A lot of collecting is involved as in every Metroid game. Its eitheir a quick walkthrough collecting the important things in as little time you can possibly manage, or a long steady play making sure "everything" is collected in about an average of four to six hours at the most. In conclusion the game rocks a so-so incarnation of the original Metroid in the eight bit days, and some of the original music is heard in the game. As for the graphics its the best 2-D Metroid scroller I've seen and control is a bit confusing espicially during missile choosing but once you get the hang of it its a beautiful 5.0!!
