Mass Effect Sonic? Not even close.
When I first picked up this game, I thought about Mass Effect. I've never played it but Gamepro said it rules. When I grabbed this game, I wondered if Bioware had made the greatest game to come out on the DS. After all, it's Bioware I'm talking about! Sadly, though, it lacks much of the polish Mass Effect is said to have. I like Sonic Chronicles, but it is NOT as deep as I wanted.
First of all, I wanna list the pros. The story is good enough to hold your attention for most of the game. Next, the controls are actually good. Moving with the stylus is as easy as it is in Phantom Hourglass. The game is really just downright fun, and those good aspects only add to the fun.
Next, the inevitable cons that come with all games. For starters, the audio made me turn my DS all the way down. The graphics were terrible, even by DS standards. The multiplayer that is offered sucks as well. Top it all off with an awful camera and pathetic AI, and you have some glaring flaws in the game.
This game had a huge chance to pioneer DS RPGs and make a formula that enables handheld RPGs to be just as good as the console ones. Alas, Bioware missed some key details that seriously hold back this game.

Review:
Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood (DS)
Let's get one thing straight right away: Sonic Chronicles is not Mass Effect Sonic, it is not Knights of the Old Republic Sonic, nor is it Baldur's Gate Sonic. While Bioware, a company with a reputation for crafting deep and complex RPG titles, developed Sonic Chronicles, it isn't as compelling as their previous efforts. Still, it's a decent enough RPG, especially for younger gamers.
THE BOTTOM LINE: Bioware knows how to craft a compelling RPG but Sonic Chronicles lacks the depth and complexity of its previous titles. As such, its simplistic gameplay and story will definitely appeal to younger gamers but more mature gamers might want to reserve their excitement for Bioware's next effort. -
