E3 Ultimate Preview Guide! (Page 2 of 4)

Wii Music- Wii

Nintendo's bringing in the noise and the funk with Wii Music, a cool "game" that uses the Wii Remote, Nunchuk and Balance Board to simulate a marching band's worth of instruments. Miyamoto and his merry band pulled off a rather clever rendition of the Mario Bros. Theme song during the Nintendo Press Conference, giving us a tantalizing taste of what's to come. But how will it stack up to Guitar Hero World Tour's more robust music creation tool, and is Wii Music the reason why the Wii version of Guitar Hero and Rock Band don't have classic Nintendo theme songs available as bonus tracks?

Wii Sports: Resort- Wii

It may not be called "Wii Sports 2" but for all intents and purposes Wii Sports: Resort is Wii Sports 2. We're not entirely convinced throwing a Frisbee to a dog is enough to sell us on Resort, but the sword-fighting game (especially the practice mode where you're able to hack up a giant pencil or hunk of wood) and the jet skiing game look pretty badass. We've only seen 3 of the games in Wii Sports: Resort and can only imagine what kind of fun-in-the-sun type games we'll see next... Wii Sunbathing?

Animal Crossing: City Folk- Wii

The familiar Animal Crossing style--decoration, acting neighborly, and collecting random crap strewn across a city inhabited by talking animals-- is finally headed for the Wii. The biggest new addition is the ability to engage in voice chat with friends visiting town via WiFi, using the WiiSpeak peripheral. Who needs 16-player first person shooters when you can taunt three of your friends after pwning them in a fishing contest?

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars - DS

Whoever said that the unadulterated carnage of the Grand Theft Auto games would never appear on a Nintendo console is going to eat their words (and no, GTA for the GameBoy Color doesn't count). Grand Theft Auto : Chinatown Wars is headed for the Nintendo DS and will be set in "modern-day" Liberty City, likely centering on the Chinatown district of the city. Four words: Touchscreen baseball bat beatdown.

Guitar Hero: Decades - DS

The recently released Guitar Hero: On Tour is selling insanely well, notching one of the best game launches in DS history. Activision has notices and is prepping Guitar Hero On Tour: Decades, which will allow you to share songs with Guitar Hero: On Tour owners. We don't know if decades comprises multiple decade packs, or has songs spanning multiple decades, but we do know one thing: no more Smashmouth, please.

WiiSpeak peripheral- Wii

Finally, voice comm comes to the Nintendo Wii in the form of WiiSpeak, a USB peripheral that sits on top of your television and lets you talk to online opponents and allies. It's a welcome feature that gamers have been clamoring for and perhaps shows that Nintendo is starting to get serious about its online initiative. We're still curious as to why they didn't just make it a headset, as that would have made the most sense from a pure gaming perspective; could this be a sign that Nintendo has bigger things in mind for the peripheral besides just one-on-one voice chat?

Spore- PC

By now, we've all messed around with Spore's creature creator, and we're happy to report that the final product is shaping up nicely. Spore was demonstrated with an evolutionary video, showing amoebas turning from fish to land dwellers to war-mongers. We love the premise behind Spore, and Will Wright hasn't let us down yet -- but we can't help but wonder if Spore's too complex for its own good.

Left 4 Dead- 360, PC

Valve's highly anticipated zombie title, Left 4 Dead, was also in attendence. The trailer introduced the game's survivors, not to mention an amazing array of zombies and monsters that tear apart the environment with each step. We love the team-play aspect of Left 4 Dead and can imagine some fantastic co-op, but we're a bit weary of the title's Half-Life 2 visuals.

Mirror's Edge- 360, PS3

Ever since the debut trailer, the first person platformer Mirror's Edge has had us wanting more. various environments were shown off, along with our heroine, Faith, solving puzzles as she leaps, crawls, and climbs to victory. We love the ideas and originality behind Mirror's Edge, but we can't help but be cynical, as there are so many ways that this game could just sound and look too good to be true.

EA All Play- Wii

Peter Moore and Tiger Woods were in attendence to introduce EA All Play, a new, child friendly sports series. The duo showed off All Play's golf mode, with motion sensitive controls for swinging and putting. We love the idea of an addictive and accessible sports complilation, but if there's one thing that we've seen way too much of lately, its been knock offs trying to re-capture the magic that is Wii Sports.

SimAnimals- DS, Wii

SimAnimals is a brand new entry in the worldly-renown Sim series. In the vein of The Sims, you control and monitor a family of animals ranging from foxes, bears, squirrels, and more. We love the idea of taking the winning formula from The Sims and focusing it on animals, but there's also a dire risk of a "been there, done that" feel looking back at the other Sim title (SimLife, SimAnt, etc.)

Sims 3- PC

Prepare to put your life on hold once more for Maxis' The Sims 3! The third installment in the insanely popular Sims series will feature brand new community aspects to compliment your virtual avatars' lifestyle. We're incredibly happy to see another Sims game on the way, especially one that looks so good, but we have to admit that after more expansions than we can count for both The Sims and The Sims 2, what else can The Sims 3 bring to the table?

Dead Space- 360, PS3

Some things just go great together -- peanut butter and jelly, or maybe surivival horror and outer space, as is the case for Dead Space. The demo shown at E3 focused on the various beasts and weapons this seminal space shooter has in store. We're excited about a developer finally taking the survival horror genre into the final frontier, but we can't help but worry how Dead Space will stack up against bigger names such as Resident Evil 5 or Silent Hill: Homecoming.

looks good, watched it live on G4 and at the movies looks surprisingly like eye toy but with the added videos at the end, and lips looks almost exactly to singstar

Good stuff, especially the Fallout 3 DLC. I'm going to be playing the crap out of that game, so I'll need it.

cant wait till Sony's conference. to tell the truth i think thats the only thing ppl are looking forward to right now. lo ljk jk, nintendo's cool too. but i'd love for Sony to just crawl back up from their kick in the balls and just bust M$'s face open with a huge surprise of their own. hell, God of War 3 footage, exclusive FF13 DLC, and even a release date for HOME will be enought to satisfy me. but M$ had a good show.
