PS3 vs Xbox 360: The release calendar showdown (Page 4 of 4)

Thoughts and Conclusion

Now that we've got the full list laid out, it's easy to see that the PlayStation 3 has more exclusive games in the works for both 2008 and 2009. Furthermore, some of these PS3 exclusives are among the hottest properties in gaming: Metal Gear Solid 4, Gran Turismo 5, Resistance 2, and God of War III will make the PS3 a hard act to top for this year and next. Plus, a supporting cast of diverse games - notably Killzone 2, Motorstorm 2, and Little Big Planet - are also primed to be major PS3 titles. Then there's Final Fantasy XIII, a true kingmaker, likely arriving for the PS3 in 2009. Sony's exclusive PS3 lineup looks rock solid for the next year, at a minimum.

The same cannot be said for Microsoft. After unloading much of its killer games in late 2007, the Xbox 360's 2008 and 2009 release calendar is lackluster and riddled with sequels. Much of the year's exclusives are back-loaded, too, with the exception of the ultra-niche Ninja Gaiden II in June. The Xbox 360's exclusives really begin with Gears of War 2 and Fable 2 in the second half of the year. Outside of Gears 2 and Fable 2, the Xbox 360's exclusive games calendar is looking pretty sparse for 2008...with the exception of the always mysterious Halo Wars. Looking ahead further, 2009 sees only a slim handful of announced exclusive games, and few big names outside of Halo Chronicles. Not an encouraging sign for Xbox 360 devotees, though Microsoft surely has some secrets in store for 2009.

We're not saying the Xbox 360 is doomed, but the cards are on the table - if you look at the facts, the PS3 will win 2008, and likely even 2009, with a superior catalog of top-tier games. The Xbox 360 still has a few gems coming, but for now, the excitement factor just isn't the same.

We hope you found this list more factual than opinionated, and we're curious to hear your take. Who do you think has the best 2008 or 2009 game lineup? Leave your thoughtful comments below.

Metal Gear Solid 4 and God of War 3 were the reason I invested in a PS3 and the the list of up coming exclusives I am sure I made the right decision. I can't wait for these titles to drop!!!!

Hey Goofball1, your name says it all huh? Since you obviously havent been reading on the latest info on the Wii, let me fill you in. The Wii is steadily continuing to lose its fanbase because of the lack of good third party titles. Thats not to say stellar titles dont come to the console(hint: Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Mario Kart). But there aren't enough stellar titles like these to keep the Wii's fanbase up. Sales of the Wii are steadily falling and PS3 sales are steadily rising, especially since amazing titles like Metal Gear Solid 4 and Killzone 2 are coming to the console. PS3 sales will soar even higher when the next price cut hits. Thats why I believe that pretty soon the Wii will fall flat on its face just like the Gamecube did while the PS3 and (unfortunately) the 360 will rise to the top of the gaming food chain. If not this year then next year in 2009.
