The internet is private (and I hope it stays that way), which is why a lot people do the things they do. No consequences, no fear of retaliation. Back in the day, when people used to do prank phones calls, they came up with *69 and caller ID so you know who's calling. Hate and harassing mail could sometimes be traced by the proper authorities. But unless you're really good at hacking & tracing IP addresses, and posting the person's private info all over the net (like the guy who had his Xbox stolen or the Marine who threw a puppy off a cliff), then there's no stopping these people.
