I went to a game design college for two years (which I now regret), and I learned you basically need to be gifted in the area you're taking for that piece of paper you get upon graduating to mean anything. I'm absolutely serious here. With game development costs skyrocketing, video game companies aren't going to f*ck around and gamble on just anyone who walks in through their door. You need to show them you have the talent to make yourself worthwhile to them. It's become a very serious business, and they aren't going to tolerate incompetence from a n00b. Whatever you're planning on taking at this college, it won't matter when you're first hired anyways. You'll start out at the very bottom, and it can take several years to work your way up. The only exception is if you're a prodigy.

That's why I'm saying you better hope it's worth it to you. Look into this college thoroughly and make sure it will provide the tools you'll need to learn what you want to learn. Also, having a solid portfolio is the most important asset to have. A 4.0 GPA doesn't mean squat to them. They can easily assume you cheated your way through college. They want to see the work you've done to evaluate your skills. On top of all this, it'll take more than 3 years (or whatever Devry's length is) to learn everything and be ready for the real world. Look forward to attending college some more after graduating your first time.

These technical colleges are very costly, so you really need to do research on them and be absolutely certain it's what you want. If entering the video game industry is a dream of yours (and somewhat still is for me), you don't need to attend one of these expensive specialty colleges to do it. You can enter in many other ways. I'm looking to become a writer, so hopefully I can do writing for games some day, after attending a regular college for writing classes. Look up a specific area you're interested in, and then look at all your options. You'll be surprised at what you'll find.

The last thing I'm going to say about this is don't sign up on impulse! I can't stress that enough. You might end up regretting spending thousands upon thousands of dollars like I have. I don't know if you happen to be gifted in the area you're interested in taking or are a very fast learner, but know that being a n00b in the field will only make things that much more difficult for you. Just be careful. I wish I had someone to tell me all this sh!t before I signed up.....

I thank you for your concern. My way is paid, I am a fast learner(just ask my teacher at Fort Hayes), I'm going in for design and coding so I can help out the navy when I go, and my back up plan is to be a chef.

Having your way paid for you (lucky bastard!) will make the experience better, but still, it won't guarantee you a position in the industry. It's good to hear you have a backup plan, though. And yeah, what you'll learn there can of course be used outside of games. You seem to have some good options laid out for you.

I have 3 bus drivers, 5 perants, 11 teachers,6 co- workers and a naval recuter whispering in my ears at all times as if I was a child, but of course I am. I guess I'm lucky to have so many people who care about me. Not that your not. You said thousands. For real?
