Hey All,

Imagine my surprise when I logged in yesterday and saw the number of F-bombs and personal attacks being thrown around on here. What happened? I turn my back for five seconds and you guys are going all commando on each other.

I know there's a certain segment of forum members who still think a sentence becomes 10x as funny if it includes the word 'fuck'. It's no fun to be the bearer of bad news, but here it is:

PROFANITY LOST ITS SHOCK POWER 20 YEARS AGO. If you want people to care, learn to write well.

It's not such a big deal if you use a swear word in an 'adjective' sense every once in awhile. That's why we removed the wordfilter. What's never ok is any of the following:

- Ad-hominem personal attacks. Criticize the idea, not the person.

- Gratuitous profanity. If your post is 30 words long and 23 of those words can't be used on network television.

- Any kind of hate speech. You call somebody a f*g, I call you BANNED.

- Posts that just don't belong on a video game board. GamePro is not a venue for adult erotic fan fiction.

Bottom line: I'm cleaning house around here. Today I'm banning the worst offenders. Starting now we're gonna make a concerted effort to ban anyone who doesn't follow the above guidelines.

I agree. Ever since the swear filter was dropped people have been acting like idiots. If you can't think of anything more original to say than the f-word then stop browsing the internet and read a book to expand your vocabulary. There's nothing mature about cussing people out. It doesn't offend me (I cuss plenty in private) but it's simply not appropriate for these forums (or anywhere else in public, for that matter).

In all seriousness, I don't mind cussing at all. Someone could use the word "fuck" for 90% of their post, or use it almost exclusively in an actual conversation, and I wouldn't blink an eye. That's just what I grew up around, and believe me, I cuss a lot more in real life than I do on here. But when it's used against someone in a hateful and/or insulting way, I agree, that has no place in a forum such as this, or any civilized place, for that matter, and that is where the line should be drawn.

i don't think i have ever dropped an f-bomb but it seems like alot of new members are saying it alot!
