  • Who Are Your Hot Developers?

Post a Reply

Just put up a new feature highlighting five hot development houses that are on track to really shake up gaming. But, like all lists, someone is bound to disagree. This the place for you to sound off on who YOU think should be on our list!

hmm probably the developers that have my attention the most right now are:

1. Nintendo 2. Ubisoft 3. Sega 4. Silicon Knights 5. Square enix

The self proclaimed HD console "Hardcore" are the Biggest Hypocrites Ever. They constantly act like their so damn superior to Wii gamers, yet they get their panties in a bunch when the PC gamers act superior to THEM.
In my opinion:

1. Nintendo 2. Team Ninja 3. Capcom 4. Sega 5. Namco Bandai

Specific Developers Would be:

1. Insomniac- Resistance: Fall of Man looks great

2. Besinda- I spelled this wrong, but the guys who make Elder Scrolls

3. Nintendo Tokyo- Super Mario Galaxy. Enough said.

In no particular order: Ubisoft, Capcom, Sega, Nintendo, and I'm not sure about a 5th one. There are lots of other good ones but most that come to my mind don't do many releases per year. Ubisoft in particular has become one hell of a development house. It's like that company can do no wrong.

BLIZZARD ENTERTAINMENT.

I'm going to have to disagree with Sony Santa Monica. Yeah, God of War is a good game, but it's not making much of a difference. It's more perfecting the action genre. David Jaffe has said it himself that he is not one to create new ideas, merely perfect where other games are lacking. Check out GameTrailers.com for the actual interview where he says this.

I'll admit God of War does make a difference in terms of perfecting a genre, but in a list of developers pushing the envelope in creativity and new IP's -- Sony Santa Monica just doesn't fit.

Personally most games I've tried that are pushing new ideas tend to not be very good in my opinion. It's after something has been tried several times and eventually perfected when new play mechanics ususally get great. So I like Jaffe's approach more. Perfect use of tried and true play mechanics usually equals more fun to me than new ideas presented in what usually turns out to be a clumsy way.

1. Nintendo EAD Tokyo

After developing the amazingly addictive oddball game DK: Jungle Beat, they get to develop the next big Mario game. That's how much faith Nintendo has in them, and such conviction should not be questioned.

2. Retro Studios

Yeah, so we already know they're the best investment Nintendo has made on an American developer(as told by Metroid Prime and MP 2: Echoes), but this time around they're delivering the end of the Prime trilogy at launch, so its pretty clear much of the Wii hype is resting on their shoulders. Also, based on the quality increase from MP to MP 2(if such a thing could linger into existence), Metroid Prime 3: Corruption will be the game to end all games. Really.

3. New Sakurai Team

So Nintendo decided to make a brand new team, headed by mastermind Masahairo Sakurai, just to develop the next Super Smah. Bros.? Like THAT needs an explenation.

4. Clover Studios

The upbringers of Viewtiful Joe proved themselves worthy of the Capcom seal of approval several years ago, and are poised to make a swift comeback with Okami. The new tools of the next generation(the Wii-mote, the Cell) will allow these maniacal geniuses to expand the creative visions of their games into some surreally fantastic territories. And you will want to be part of it.

5. Kojima Productions

I'm pretty sure you know these guys, right? And that you're also familiar with Hideo Kojima's pedigree, correct? But did you know they're the reason to won a PS3? You didn't? Well, now you know.

Shame of the Game- declining developers

1. Rareware

Right after leaving Nintendo, their first Xbox project invades everyone's ignore list, and their Xbox 360 launch titles are nothing to write home about, either. And what's up with Viva Piata? Microsoft's most important game of 2006? Tell that to Gears of War and Too Human.

2. Hal Laboratory

With the exodus of Mr. Sakurai, the quality in their games' design saw a significant dip(SSB:Melee Kirby Air Ride, to say the least), and their next big project(aside from that ghost Kirby GC game) is nowhere to be seen.

3. THQ

Technically not a developer, but still pretty lame given recent announcements that all they can whip out for the Wii's launch is SpongeBob and Cars.

That's all for now. Keep in mind that they are not listed in order of preference.
