I've read it's because they require their restaurants to be within like 24 hours driving of their two meat processing plants so their beef is really fresh. Given their plants are only on the west coast, you're screwed if you live east of the Rockies.
Too bad too, because their burgers, fries and shakes are freaking amazing. It's been more than 12 years since I had one and I'm still craving another.
I can't wait 'til I'm old enough to feel ways about stuff.
