Achievements are just there to give gamers a false sense of satisfaction and accomplishment that the game couldn't otherwise provide, and give cheap means to extend the amount of gameplay. So no I guess you can say I'm not an achievement whore. I only go for achievements if they are not ridiculously impossible and I know I'm actually going to have FUN getting them. Needless to say, my gamer score is 11k right now, so not too bad anyway considering I don't particularly try for them.

Micro$oft didn't do achievements first. Many games had arbitrary awards before the first Xbox even released.
Explain how they "excel" in it, if you don't mind.
