Ok so I've been playing ODST for a solid 3 hours now.
1 hour on firefight and 2 hours on the campaign
Cons:
Ugly, ugly, ugly. It hasn't aged as well as I thought it would. Halo 3 aged better because it was so bright and colorful but the palette is darker in this game.
Needs new weapons.
No matchmaking for firefight
Not actually open-world
Pros:
Awesome campaign. The story, the how you switch between characters, the setting, the gameplay...all of it is incredibly well done. The story is awesome, switching between characters really helps the story.
I like the gameplay a lot more. The battles are smaller, but I enjoy them way more.
The Halo 2 magnum is back. FUCKING YES. I would rape shit with this magnum in Halo 2. And now they even added a scope.
Firefight. This mode is very well done. I haven't had enough time to say if it is better than Gears of War 2 yet, but there are some differences I like. The one difference is that you start off with I think 6 lives. And it can increase if reach a certain number of rounds. I sort of prefer Gears of War 2's version, where if you get executed, you are out for the round. Makes it more intense. I prefer the maps though for Halo.
No fighting Elites. Am I the only one who hates fighting Brutes? I loved fighting Elites way more than Brutes.
All in all, it is better than I thought it would be. I'm still not sure about the $60 price tag to be honest though. If you never bought Halo 3, then ODST should be up on your list. The campaign and firefight shits all over Halo 3.
I haven't tried the multiplayer maps yet, but I'm not the biggest fan of Halo 3's multi. Give me Halo 2!
But ya, so far it gets a solid 8 out of 10. If it was $20 cheaper, it would get a 9.5 from me.
EDIT: I can't believe I forgot to add this. The art direction and sound/music are phenomenal. I love the art direction. The new visor makes everything look a lot cooler
