at a price point that DIRECTLY competes with the 360 and wii,we should see a huge spike in sales. and i expect some great bundle deals around holidays but the question remains,can the slim pull sony out of third place?

It's definitely going to give them a great boost. I will be finally picking one for me ( uncharted 2 here I come!)
My only gripe with this is that I like the glossy finish a lot more, well one can't have everything.
btw expect a price-cut on MS's camp, good news for gamers all around.

its definitely got me considering it... if i was more sure as to what ill be doing in the coming months id probably go out and preorder it right away..... but since i am not sure what ill be doing for the next couple months im going to resist the temptation....

I think a PS3 price drop happened silently. I'm not sure as I haven't been keeping up with this stuff, but I heard the 80GB went down to $300.
Is that news or is that old?
Also, I don't think the PS3 is coming out of third place, however I don't exactly care either. So long as it comes out with great games and continues to do so, it's still the best in my book.

I was just talking about this with Andy but could you imagine if Sony had managed to get the Slim, the price dropped original PS3 and God of War III onto store shelves in the same holiday season?
