I just found this the other day, not sure how many of you guys already knew this but certain nursery rhymes have gruesome origins for them to be sung by children.
here's an example- remember the classic favourite ring around the rosie? Well, If you've ever sang this as a kid, then you'd probably not know that this was about the black plague. I'll show you...
Ring around the rosie- rosie refers to the red, rosie patches that were brought on by the plague
Pocket full of posies- They would stuff victims of the plagues' pockets with posies due to their horrible smell
Ashes ashes- they cremated the plague victims (and this also refers to the great fire in the 1700s)
We all fall down- All the people knew they'd die eventually since the plague was spreading.
Well, pick your jaw up if it's down... pretty sick for a child to sing isn't it? Post any rhymes you know the true meaning of or just comment on why they'd let children even sing this
