Well I got Dragon Quest IV a while ago, and when I booted up the game, all I could see was the little circle-shadow on the screen where the character should be. I exchanged that copy of the game for another one, and still the same thing!

I recently bought Dragon Quest V, and I just booted it up, and GUESS WHAT; same thing! Is my DS just broken??
