  • Having a Deep and Compelling Story Should Be A Crucial Aspect of Video Games

Post a Reply

While things like gameplay and length are vital components of a video game, I believe that an interesting story is very important for a good "single" player game. While there are games that I have enjoyed which don't offer any real story, there are also many that I have disliked thanks to the absence of a deep and compelling story.
That's why the next SMG should have a good story. One reason I didn't like the first SMG is due to this factor (it was just Mario saves Peach and an added extra bonus book story about some stars). But when I think about it, Super Mario 64 also had the same old Mario saves Peach story. But I think I liked it thanks to it being my first Mario game (likewise, I didn't have any experience with the Mario series and/or story).

I mentioned "single" player experience if you read my post.
And Brawl did have a story.

lol
Sorry, I may have been misleading with the title. Sorry!
While I also don't really love FPS games, the multi-player can make up for the lack of story. But in single-player experiences, I think a deep story is necessary.
In multi-player games, you are competing with others and thus that is your motivation for playing. But in single-player experiences, a good story must motivate you to play more. Now that doesn't mean I want to see a whole movie of cut scenes but you know what I'm talking about.

I completely disagree. Then again I want a shorter game that includes replay value outside of online, and pushed along with great gameplay.... and an increase of difficulty...that's how the games were that I was raised on.

Like a MGS4 experience. But sadly as it is a lot of FPS' have a skimpy storytelling with a larger emphasis on multiplayer. *cough* Halo *cough*

Yes, difficulty and gameplay are very important. But I think a good story is also necessary.

No, not like a MGS4 experience. Notice, I also mentioned that I don't want a whole bunch of cut scenes to bore me to death.

FPS's suck unless they're online, that's my opinion.
