  • Reasons to choose a PSP-3000 over the PSP Go!

Post a Reply

I'm very supportive of downloadable games but I think I'd still get a PSP-3000 instead of a PSP Go! for the following reasons:

1. The Playstation Store would most likely not have all the games that you would want to download right away. This is one of the major drawbacks of the current transition from physical media to digital media. You know how long it'll take Nintendo to get every game they made into the Virtual Console.

2. There is no guarantee that your favorite game will end up in the Playstation Store. Just because it's your favorite game doesn't mean it will actually end up there. I hope I'm wrong in this case but it's good to err on the side of caution.

3. The PSP-3000 has memory card slots to fit in memory stick cards. I believe the largest ones out would be 16 or 32 GB but it remains to be seen how cost effective this would be compared to the PSP Go! and its 16 GB internal memory. A 8 GB Memory Stick Pro Duo costs $70 while 4 gigs costs $40.

4. Bigger is better: the screen sizes are still bigger on the PSP-3000.

5. Controller layout: I cringe at the thought of having to get my hands closer together and I remember how bad my hands used to cramp up with the GBA or GBA SP.

6. Anyone play games on the iPhone? I know I was excited about the possibilities of iPhone gaming until I went to an Apple Store to give it a try and after that, I do have difficulty seeing how that could become very successful for ALL types of games.

We are basically stuck in the middle of the big transition from physical media to digital media and at the time, it's not such a bad idea to have a system that can use both physical and digital media. The PSP Go! will be for people who are ready to go fully digital and that will be most likely everyone a few years down the road.

That's why having a PSP-3000 wouldn't be such a bad idea. Down the road, it wouldn't be a surprise to see people have both the PSP-3000 and PSP Go! especially if the Go! has the same functions as the iPhone/iTouch.

u guys gotta understand that this isn't a new PSP2, but just a new SKU. yeah, the controller layout might be a problem, and fully going digital is an issue but i expect a lot of things for the new PSP

UMD is a fail format, EVERYBODY that has a PSP mods it, cause it is easy and better...UMD will never make a return.

Today, I gave the option to my boyfriend of 5 years to either quit World of Warcraft of lose me. He said WOW makes him happier. FML ---- FML Story.

I don't think we asked.

And everybody? SEriously? I don't think I have modded my PSP.... nope, I have not. I love buying UMDs, cause its the only physical format. Better than cartridges.

My PSP's modded lol.

But I do think you can trade them in to GameStop to get the digital versions. I'm not certain, though.

lol, really???...Everybody i know(no lie)...that owns a PSP has modded it and Hates UMD. I think you might one of the very few that actually buys games. i own a PSP 1000, i stopped playing games on it once i got my PS3, but i use it for my movies, music, and photos on the go. :)

That was a rumor concerning what to do with them. yes.

And I was just pointing out that not everyone's PSP is modded, and that UMD sales are good, despite the major pirating.

UMD sales could certainly be better. When I say my PSP is modded, I only use it as a retro hub and universal remote. Realistically though, with the current sales rate of UMDs, it may just be in Sony's best interest to adopt Digital distribution. I do plan to get a PSP Go!, but I am going to keep my old PSP as a means for other...not so legal purposes. The benefit of Digital distribution though is that the games could potentially be cheaper. If not, are you surprised? Gotta make up for lost ground somewhere, right?

Anyway, I do buy UMDs. I don't pirate PSP games.

Yeah, but most people do pirate PSP games.

And yeah, digital distribution is good in terms of production and profit, but it hurts the consumer who has no or weak internet access, like myself. I can't download Patapon 2 in any way due to a lack of a wireless router or PS3, which makes me angry cause why would they do that? To alienate a world not ready for digital distribution yet?

To accommodate for that, Sony should definitely have download stations at local retail stores. The down side?

"Mommy, what's a used game?"

Oh yeah...I noticed that UMD copies are more expensive than the digital copies of the same game. I have noticed that whenever I downloaded games via XBL or the Virtual Console.

Cheap wins in this case.

True, that would work... But how long/how many/how big would downloads be.

And yeah, the death of a great market.

You didn't know that UMD discs can hold up to 1.8 GB of memory? And not that many PSP games have that kind of memory. If Sony is to continue selling UMD games, they will have to put a 1.8 GB limit on PSP games regardless of the media. Not many PSP games have hit 1 GB in memory so memory shouldn't be that big of an issue.

Dude, do you have a PC? You can download PSP games from the Playstation Store over the internet.
