Man...I am just not having any luck with these next gen consoles. First my PSP got dead pixel and then my Xbox360 got the ring of death. That took me a few weeks and a few send backs to fix (hopefully thats the end of that). Now it's my PS3 turn to get the flashing re LED! I'M PISSED!!! I remembered when game system costed much less and lasted the entire generational life span. Starting with my Sega Genesis and all the way to my PS2. I've not had any hardware malfunction, in fact, the only thing I had to replace was my TV sets. With the high price tag of these new systems, is it wrong for any consumer to expect the unit would last more then 1 1/2 yrs? I WAS bashing the Xbox for their hardware failure but now that my PS3 have suffered the same fate...I speechless. Never thought that buying extended warranty on anything would be worth it, but SONY and Microsoft have opened my eyes. THINK TWICE BUYERS EVERYWHERE! I was just finally on the verge of finishing Oblivion: GOTY too! I just hope that my game data, movies, and DL games won't be lost. *Bleep!* I just filled out the service form from SONY and it's going to cost me a flat rate of $160. At least Microsoft extended their warranty and that was fixed free of charge. I'm just ticked and needed to vent. Oh well... now I can finally get to GoW2 I bought. Can't wait for RE5!!! WORST RELIABLE CONSOLE GENERATION EVER!!!

Actually consoles are around the same price if you think about inflation and all that. They were actually more expensive. Here are some launch prices. Add about 150 bucks to each of them to count for inflation and the prices are pretty comparable to what you pay now. But yeah, the more advanced these things get the more likely something will go wrong.
Atari 2600: 139.99
NES: 179.99
SMS: 189.99
Sega Genesis: 189.99
SNES: 249.99
Saturn: 399.99
PSone: 299.99
NEO GEO gold: 799.99
3DO: 599.99

I know but it's still more reliable than the others.
One of my friends had a problem once- the Wii discs wouldn't go in but he still had the warranty and got it fixed.

Aww, man! Well, I'm sure you're not the only one. Companies are after big $$$$ from poorly manufactured consoles and stuff.

Photobucket I forgot to polish the clocks!

welcome to the club... I have replaced both my PS3 and 360 once.... Sending your PS3 to Sony to fix is the way to go, however you will lose any and all data on your HDD, it is possible they will just send you a replacement PS3, instead of fixing your PS3 and shipping it back to you.

All my other systems have worked great, absolutely no issues (PSP, Wii, DS)
