Sony, putting aside the human toll of massive restructuring, is a fascinating example of the carnage happening in the business world today, and the stifling of innovation in large companies. Todays multinational conglomerate had humble origins in post WWII Japan: Masaru Ibuka started a radio repair shop in a bombed-out building in Tokyo, and was joined by his colleague Akio Morita a year later.

These two innovators built Japans first tape recorder and went on to experiment with transistors, a new invention at the time. The resulting transistor radios and subsequent creativity produced an explosion of consumer and professional products synonymous with quality. Its hard to overstate how innovative the company was in its youth: even the name Sony - a made up word which could be copyrighted and was one of the first global consumer brands - was hugely controversial in Japan, where it was unheard of not to have a company name in Kanji, and wildly creative and attention getting in the western world.

So how did this creative dynamo deteriorate into the opaque bureaucracy that is Sony today - a company which is ubiquitous on the planet but unfocused compared to for example Apple, who claimed the next generation of personal audio - and the massively lucrative content market - after Sonys hugely successful WalkMan?

Another possibility, and one that fanboys will undoubtedly prefer, is that these secret games are being kept that way because of their immense awesomeness. Perhaps Sony and the development studios involved have crafted games so amazing, so innovative, that they dont want to risk them being copied by unscrupulous competitors. If this is the case, maybe we really will see a true, top secret game surface in 2009.

-Playstation3 possibly inching closer to an early "gameover"-

Oh yeah I bet. And its all the medias fault to, Right ACEMANWISE? It has nothing to do with its ridicolously high price tag. LOL

While there are undoubtedly a multitude of gamers who are proud of their Playstation 3 purchases, Sony business executives are not as confident, considering that their choice gaming console remains consistently behind the competition and possesses a negative stigma as a product with features that fail to justify its high cost.

Unfortunately, regardless of the current state of the Playstation, Sony business executives have more considerable issues to consider, if this report from the UK Times is any indication.

That publications report mentions that Sony is due for sacred cow-slaying measures which will abolish or fundamentally alter many of Sonys long-standing business practices.

WOw, u got the balls to make more Ps3 hate threads....Give respect to ACE, he is the only one that shows sympathy to u....

Today, I gave the option to my boyfriend of 5 years to either quit World of Warcraft of lose me. He said WOW makes him happier. FML ---- FML Story.

I guess you saw my thread about the Aussie mag saying the PS4 would come in 2012?

I just read that article right before you made that thread.

Speaking of the high cost of the PS3, that reminds me of the PS2 not being as big of a high cost to make compared to the PS3. That's why Sony will most likely either release a souped up PS3 w/out blu-ray as the PS4. If they do that, Sony can get back to being the leading consolemaker just like in the PS1 and PS2 days.

Sony cannot afford to screw up with the PS4.

Pac-Man, Galaga, and New Rally-X: Ageless classics!

finally the REAL Sparks is back

Too late. They let MS in the door with this fuckup and Nintendo is a powerhouse now. The days of Sony ruling are forever gone. Their electronics division is a shambles because of their outsourcing and stiff competition by Samsung, Panasonic and many cheap Chinese companies.
Sony will be fine in the end and will not die but Sony will not be the company it was during the 1970's and 1980's. Those days are never coming back.

Yeah I did. It was a good article. But its no secret, well not to me anways. I knew sony wouldnt keep the ps3 around for long. Its just costing them way to much and is showing very little return. Game sales stink on the ps3. Ps3 owners wont even buy thier own games. LOL The only people that live in that kind of denial are sony fantards. Everything this gen just seems so unstable IMO. The 360s reliability and the ps3s life expectency as a system. I dont know how anyone bought the systems at all.

Yeah that's the truth about this gen...a letdown compared to last gen which means the next gen should be better. I most likely will get a 360 Arcade to tide me over until next gen.

Like many gamers, I thought the PS3 was going to be an awesome system based on how the PS1 and PS2 did and then a few months later, I started to regret it especially since I already had a 360 which was a year older than the PS3 and Sony could have improved the PS3 in that one year gap before they launched it. I guess they didn't get it done.

I did enjoy the Wii but it's not for hardcore gamers (I know you don't like Wii-bashing) and while Nintendo had something new, the Wii falls short in the hardware design. Like Sony, Nintendo should get it right next gen. I have a feeling that Sony, Nintendo, and M$ will get it right next gen.
