  • New GamePro.com: Pros and Cons!

Post a Reply

Hey guys! GamePro editor Sid Shuman here.

Hope you're liking your experiences on the new site. But while the developers and editors are taking a well-deserved breather, I thought I'd ask what you guys like -- and don't!-- about the new site.

Your feedback will help us decide what to add to the site in the coming months. We have some pretty big plans already in the works, but I'm interested in your feedback now on the following areas:

1) Front page: are there enough stories in the main story scroller? (it's currently at four)
2) What about the news headlines? ("Top Stories") Enough stories? Enough space for them?
3) How are you liking our new previews and reviews? Are you learning enough about the games?
4) Anything else you think I should know?

One other interesting tidbit: user reviews are probably the biggest change we've seen on the new GamePro.com. SO MANY of you are chiming in with great new user reviews -- we had something like a 1000% increase in the quantity of them. Awesome job guys -- keep 'em coming!

Thanks all, let me know what you think. =)

This user is completely without Sig... Sigless. Not at all Siggy wit' it. This is an ex-Sig.

I like the overall layout of the site...............I don't like topics falling in order of date made, under each section.

Thanks for the fresh look.

Sid, I am running with Internet Explorer 6. Can you please get rid of that dialog box that keeps coming up telling me I need to update to Internet Explorer 7? It gets really annoying. What is the disadvantage to having an older version anyway?

Overall it pretty good. At first I was like it sucks but now that I adjusted it's better. The only complain I have is the comments section needs to be on column.

I like the whole site, not much you guys haven't done right. One thing I'd like is a link to the blogs' home page on the front page (maybe in the list of areas on the site below the banner), and for the blogs' home page to be updated with the most recent blogs.

I'd also like to be able to refresh the most recent forum page by clicking the "Forum" button at the top of the forum instead of having to click the Forum button under the banner at the top of the page.

There are several reasons for requiring the upgrade, but the three biggest reasons are:

1) IE6 is *NOT* HTML Standards Compliant. IE 7 isnt either, but its a hell of a lot closer than IE6.

2) IE6 does not properly handle .PNG file alpha channel transparency, which the new site uses on several images and we plan on using even more in the future.

3) IE6 is several years old. IE8 was just released, so its two versions behind, and not doing well for its age. It is riddled with vulnerabilities and exploits that have been (mostly) plugged in more recent browsers.

In summary, we STRONGLY recommend you upgrade to IE8, FireFox, Safari or Google Chrome.

also it would be cool to bring back the featured member tradition, starting with me since ive never made the featured member :(
