Some people shouldn't be allowed to vote.

Well, as a 14 year old, I'm constantly around other 14 year olds who think they know everything about politics. It sure gives me quite a few laughs! All they're doing is spewing out what they hear their parents talk about. And since I live in Texas, all I hear every day is "Obama sucks!". It's funny yet pathetic at the same time.

What's really sad is by voting for McCain which many Americans will do, you guys are just going to get another 4 years of the exact same policies as George Bush. That's funny and sad at the same time for Americans

Despite the fact that a lot of people vote for the wrong reasons, everyone having the right to vote is one of the rights people here are entitled to. Without everyone having the right to vote this country wouldn't be what it is. This country was founded on the idea that everyone is equal, and if they were to take away certain people's right to vote it would go against one of the main beliefs we have. Besides that, if you were to stop certain people from voting where would it stop? At some point someone would start revoking the rights of people to vote to help them win elections. Before too long this country would go from being a democracy to being more of a socialist society. Everyone having the right to vote, even if people make terrible decisions, is necessary for us to have the freedoms we have.

Well Kalell, we do take certain parties rights to vote away, mainly felons. Most of the people on welfare do not vote either, unless they are the ones who truly need it and are willing to work and get off of it. The sad fact of voting is that many states are so entrenched in their red/blue standing that someone voting against the grain in a state will get them nothing. We should probably do away with the electoral college/republic and do a pure representative democracy where everyone's vote counts no matter what state they are voting in. That's what happend to Al Gore.

I didn't know people on welfare couldn't vote, that's not cool (but understandable), but taking away voting rights from felons is part of the punishment they get for breaking the law.

I hate the electoral college, it needs to go.

I would rather we have a true democracy. I would like to not only be able to vote for the people that represent our country (and have every vote count), but also on the laws that we have to follow. I know why they didn't go in that direction though, it's the same reason that a lot of people in this thread think a lot of people shouldn't be allowed to vote. They felt that the average person wasn't intelligent enough to make good decisions about what laws we should and shouldn't have. When they wrote the constitution they took into account how stupid the average voter could be, and decided a representative type government was the best option.

Yeah, most people couldn't read back then, lolz! However, I will say that there is a former mongolian nation (I can't remember which) that is a pure democracy and all citizens are allowed to vote through the internet. I don't think it is compulsory there, but they have trouble getting peole to vote because there is so much of it. People are just lazy and tend to fall asleep at the switch of their life until someone tries to pull it for them, then its "Oh no you didn't!".

Exactly. I would just like for some peoples reasons for voting for a candidate to change. Especially if it's superficial.

I completely agree. If McCain voted 95% of the time for Bush then they have the same mind set. Palin becoming McCain's vp choice has changed this election for the better(sarcasm). That still doesn't change the fact that you are re-electing Bush for another term.

Baby_Bitt wrote:Well neither of the candidates are really that good. It's just kinda lk bad and worse. I do agree tho that some people should not be able to vote. I am a woman and in my opinion I believe that some women should not have the right to vote. So are so dumb they think one guy is cuter so they will vote for him or just the fact that a women is running for president or is vp they think that they should vote for them just because it is a woman. I just think some people are ridiculous.

But isn't that why mccain put her on his ticket, in the hopes of getting the female supporters that would have voted for Hilary??? I still want to vote for Obama, not because he is black, but because IMO he is the most sane. How can you not know how many houses you own and think that $5,000,000.00 is how much middleclass workers make in a year?
Also, usually, I did say usually, the person that becomes president is the best looking person running...For example, John Kerry vs George W Bush, Bush was the better looking candidate. George H Bush vs Bill Clinton, Clinton was the better looking candidate...or so I have heard. I know a lot of people (racists) will vote for Mccain because they hate Obama because of his skin color, now that IS retarded, but that is their way of thinking.

the government/founding fathers dont think Americans are smart enough to vote either...thats why we have the Electoral College

In a way I want him to win just so I can say "I told you so" when the same people that cried over the last 8 years (after voting for Bush) will be crying over the next 4 years
