I just listened to that "All Nightmare Long" to see what all the talk is about around here, and it was a better new one that I've heard......but I still think it's lame.
To me, you can tell that they are a bunch of old dudes that are still trying to be cool. And Lars is doing less than he used to, which is pretty bad.
Now, don't yell at me. Do I like Metallica anymore? No...but I'm open to anything. I've listened to most of the new stuff.
Here's what I think about the whole thing; you know why people say it sounds like the old? Because all of the songs sound like re-writes of the old material. "The Day that Never Comes" interlude before the solo, sounds exactly like "One." Plus, that is mostly a wankery solo, which is pretty dull.
Not exactly in the same genre, but you guys should really listen to Symphony X.

Yeah! I think "All Nightmare Long" and "Broken, Beat & Scarred" are my favorites so far. Everything else is pretty damn good. I knew Rick Rubin was amazing, but know I think he's a miracle man. He help to bring something back to Metallica that I haven't seen since the Black album, but mostly before. Very pleased with it. Metallica's gettn old, but they're still kicking!

Lars' drum work is certainly better than "Load" thru "St. Anger". Metallica really went down a different path druing the '90s.
