Just delete whatever the game has installed. It's not like it's permanent. I'm all for a 10 or 15 minute wait when the game starts, and then no load screens ( barely ) the rest of the game. I feel more immersed in the action.

if carts weren't abandoned all those years ago (yes i realize it HAD to be done) then load screens wouldn't be an issue...

Yeah whats the big deal. PS3 uses laptop hard drives thats dirt cheap. I prefer mandatory install for games now. I know it makes game experience better.

Don't forget there are external hard drives like these.

$82.99 for this 160gb, compatible with the PS3. Make sure your hard drives are FAT32.

only if there is a considerable difference, otherwise mandatory iinstalls are a waste of time and space if the game only loads 1-2 seconds faster. 4-5GB for that isn't worth the wait.

i would own an external HDD more than an regular. i'm aware with internal drives that seem to fail quicker than an external.

they do more than that. the differences in the 360 and PS3 version of GTAIV are minor, but noticeable...from the load screens to the draw distance. developers think its worth it, cuz they wont stop doing it.

Mandatory installs are a good thing ! It is the only way to make most of the graphicly appealing PS3 games run smooth. Blu-Ray looks dicey from several non-capacity angles. Blu-Ray movies require a 1.5x Blu-Ray drive, or 54Mbits/second. Sony announced that PS3 uses a 2x BD drive, which is 72Mbits/second or 9MB/second. The Xbox 360 uses a 12x DVD, which should give it about 16MB/second. That is significantly faster for games and will result in shorter load times. And that 12x DVD drive should be a whole lot cheaper. (Note that the PS3 drive will do 8x DVD, and even that is faster than 2x BD.)
