The more I read these desperate claims (which seems to take place on a daily basis), the more I get the impression that Sony fans just aren't satisfied or have been in some way let down by the PS3. Or perhaps they have begun to doubt their hefty $600+ investment, so they try to convince themselves and others that the PS3 WILL be worth it in the future, and will hold the same dominance that the PS2 was graced with. It's just a bunch of denial, and it's accomplishing nothing but making you look desperate. Sony fans seem to be down on the present, so they hold out to be what could be in the future, instead of living for the now. Though I guess you can't blame them, since Sony themselves are guilty of this mentality. But that's a whole 'nother story...
I know this mentality all too well, because I was once in your shoes, only my console of choice was the Gamecube. Even though it was clear that the Cube was probably the low point in Nintendo's career, the truth is I was simply in denial about its shortcomings. I actually believed that the Gamecube would be a much greater hit than the N64, maybe even the SNES or NES, and that it was help get Nintendo back on top. It wasn't until maybe 2004 when I realized that this was nothing more than my wishful thinking, and that the Cube was simply not the success that Nintendo said it was going to be. Now I'm not saying the PS3 will share the same fate, but I'm just using this as an example.
If you like the PS3, then great. But show that you like it by showing confidence in your investment. Don't come up with these crazy theories of what the console WILL do, or COULD do, or how it will win the console war in 2014.. Enjoy it for what it is NOW, not what it potentially could be in the future. It makes it seem like you're dissatisfied of the current state of the PS3, and are hopefully waiting for some miracle to truly make it worth your 600 greens. Could MGS4 be the greatest game ever made and sell 10 million PS3s? Maybe. Will Blu-ray be the future? Possibly. Could the PS3 suddenly take off in sales and share similar success the PS2 had? Doubtful. Will Sony miraculously drop the price of the PS3 by $250 in 2 months? Probably not. Until we know for sure, it's utterly pointless to make these claims, and foolish to use them as a basis as to why the PS3 kicks the 360 and Wii's ass.
Having said that, I'm not trying to say that it's somehow wrong to get excited for and hype up the PS3's future games like FFXIII, MGS 4, Heavenly Sword, and Lair. You have every reason to, because those games do look great. But just don't act like these games are going to magically skyrocket the PS3 to the top and will be the death of the other two consoles, because it's just not going to happen. Enjoy the games and accept the PS3 for what it is.
