Both Sony and MS are major powerhouse corporations. They have tons of income besides their video game sales.

Otherwise, I agree with the "corporation" support.

Sure, all of the companies would like to outsell the others, but I really don't think that any of them particularly care how much the other guy makes. Sony and Microsoft both have a number of other products so they do not depend entirely on their game systems. Sony, in particular, seems to be willing to comprimise the PS3 in order to win the more important "format war" between blu-ray and HD-DVD. Let's say that the PS3 price alone ailenates half of their current PS2 owners (100 million PS2's sold). While some may see it as a HUGE setback, Sony will see it as a gain because that means there are 50 million blu-ray players in homes. Considering that very few stand alone HD-DVD or Blu-Ray systems have sold (Including the 360 HD-DVD add on), this would tip the format war in Sony's favor. Success for Blu-Ray would more than make up for PS3 production losses. It's a big gamble, but one with huge dividends if Sony wins. That being said, Nintendo is strictly a gaming company that lives and dies by their machines. After the Gamecube debacle, they NEEDED the Wii to be successful...which it will be. If nothing else, Nintendo proved that it is here to stay.
Could not have said it better myself!

The Nintendo Wii will at least have a very big lead since they're already making money. How are Sony and Microsoft going to catch up? Sony's marketing strategy is all back loaded with the assumption that they're going to make major video game sales, but if their video game system is priced out of reach of alot of consumers than that directly limits the number of PS3 owners who will be able to purchase PS3 video games.
ok, first of all, the PS3 is not "out of reach" to anyone...just out of reach to anyone who's too lazy to save up. so you have to save an extra $200-$300, it's not impossible...hell...it's not really that hard if you try....
but that aside, Sony will make up for their money loss in other areas, they make more than just Playstations after all, one look at my car will show you that, between my Sony X-Plode stereo and my Sony X-Plode Subwoofers. and not to forget Sony's TV lines....they've got nothing to worry about.
Microsoft is the same way (though a bit more limited), they also produce PC software.
Nintendo is the ONLY company who's only profits come from games. and while that shows unlimited dedication....it's also not the safest route to walk....if nintendo games don't sell...nintendo is screwed (see Sega Dreamcast). but if the PS3 and/or Xbox 360 fail, they can always come back.
