I find Malmsteen boring.

Three other excellent guitarist that are not in the shred area: Tony Lazaro, Dave Suzuki both from Vital Remains and Luca Turilli from Rhapsody.

I would say Malmsteen tops Batio on the fact that he pioneered shred, but that doesn't make you the best really. Sure you can play very fast and with great precision, but it takes more than that to be the best. I would have to say that Joe Satriani out of all of the ones that I mentioned is the best of all time because his mastering of just about every guitar technique.

I call 'em as I see 'em comin'
Michael Angelo Batio.

Here is video proof.

oh and add to my list BB KING, Jeff Beck, Paul Gilbert, and Stevie Ray Vaughan

Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, John Patrucci, Eric Johnson are easily easily easily some of the greatest of all time. Jimi Hendrix is good but a little overrated, I think. The guitarist from Rage just plays power chords mostly and that doesn't real prove his skill. I would also have to rate Jimmy Page up there as well as Yngwie Malmsteen.

the guitarist from rage against the machine is a good guitarist.
