- What movies should be made into games?
Madd, nobody mentioned The Matrix because it's already in development from Interplay and Shiny. :) I was thinking of movies that haven't already been tagged for conversion.
Hawks, there are Ghostbusters games for NES, C-64, Sega Genesis...and none of them are what I'm talking about. I'm thinking 3D action/adventure, not side-scroller (Genesis) or a mix of top-down driving and simplistic 2D action (all the others). I think it's time to bring the franchise into the modern realm with a modern engine and modern gameplay.
HIGHLANDER. 3D weapon-based fighting, a la Soul Calibur...why on earth not? The whole plot is about deadly fights. It fits perfectly.
GHOSTBUSTERS. Not the Extreme GB (which is headed for GameCube) but a 3rd person, over-the-shoulder type game (think Tomb Raiderish), or a squad-based shooter (think SWAT 3) with proton packs. Based on the first film, of course. I honestly feel this has good gameplay potential, if you treat it like a hunt-and-trap action/adventure.
ROLLERBALL. This was in development but it fell out (chalk another one up for Vapor Trails). There's a remake of the film coming out this summer, and for those who aren't familiar, it's a lethal cross between football, roller derby, and motocross...the carnage possibilities are intriguing! Besides, outside of Mutant League, has anybody really done violent fantasy sports correctly?
Chime in with your ideas, but consider this: A good movie does not make a good game unless the movie's situations suggest GAMEPLAY. "I liked it, it was a cool movie" is not a good reason for a film to be turned into a game--but if the story or scenes lend themselves to an interactive situation (i.e. Aliens is a great setup for a first-person shooter), then you might be on to something...
What would make Naked Gun a good game? Comedies don't usually work as games. See Porky's for 2600...
