This user is completely without Sig... Sigless. Not at all Siggy wit' it. This is an ex-Sig.

This standard or "original" version of the code used within the game Contra, which, upon correct input at the pause screen, thirty lives would be awarded.

It was also used in Idridon 1, and it would give the player's ship all games power-ups.

No comment for the "dictionary-ish of this post.... I just use it every now and then.

I tried to see if it worked in MGS4. I went to the password screen and entered U,U,D,D,L,R,L,R,B,A but it didn't do anything. It did a few things in MGS2: Substance and MGS3.

its a code that works for Konami games only, and its the same "code pattern" for each game, that does something good and sometimes does something stupid or funny. in other words, its a "joke" made by Konami. (though not all games support it)

On the contrary, if you input it during the opening title screen then you get the 30 lives, if you input it at the pause screen, nothing happens.
