  • Your childhood games and gaming memories

Post a Reply

I was just watching this vid here, and it got me thinking about the games of my own childhood, and got me going through different memories so I decided to make a thread where we can share our childhood games, and gaming memories.

I'll start with one:

I remember going over to my friend's house when I was I think 9 years old. I lived in a small town, and he lived a number of blocks away, but we walked it anyways. He was the guy I would later get into fanboy arguments with on PS1 vs N64, and at that time I only had a Genesis, and a NES. He had a Snes, and two NES systems (I though that was extreme at the time). Anyways I vaguely remember seeing him play a little Pilot wings which looked boring as hell to me at the time, but then he introduced me to a little game I like to call Sunset Riders. I loved it from the instant I played it. A total classic. I don't remember how far we got in to Sunset Riders that day, but I'm willing to bet that I was holding him back.

We also played another game I've wanted since that day on the Nes called Bad Dudes.

I'd end up going to his house on other occasions to play other games like Mortal Kombat (Snes edition), NBA Jam, and though I didn't play it, I remember seing him play Super Tecmo Bowl there as well.

My fondest memory of gaming I have has to be Black & White. I believe I was in or around the 7th grade, and it was one of those few moments when you're young and you just so happen to pick out a great game from its box art.

I played the game for hours; in fact, it was the only game that actually made me skip dinner (mom my was pissed). I fell in love with the unique of gameplay and the overall good/evil theme it presented.

I someday hope to get the chance to actually meet Peter Molyneux.

Does it bother you that I have a dog that's two years older than you?

Ahh good thread 2D. Sunset Riders brings back memories...

Where do I begin? I guess my first video game memory is a good point...clears throat My first video game memory is Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt for the NES,(probably explains my love for Mario and Nintendo in general). The NES was and still is one of the best systems ever. Home video gaming boomed because of the NES!!! I enjoyed countless titles on the system. My next video game memory, besides all the NES games, is the C64. I vaguely remember the system. All I remember really was my grandma had so many C64 floppy discs. The only game I clearly remember playing was Metal Gear, (MGS FTW!!), overall I enjoyed the C64 to a great extent. My next system was the SEGA Genesis. This system amplified my gaming needs. Sonic is as memorable as Mario and other trademarks, (the Sonic soundtrack still plays in my head)...

I'll stop here since I have to go and I'll pick up on the PSone/N64 era...(I skipped a lot but it would literally take forever to mention all the fun times)

Awesome thread 2D, I love discussing retro!!!

My NES will be 20 years old this Christmas. Still the same old one. Now that's a quality system flashing aside.

I remember playing Metal Gear on the Nes. I didn't know how slaughtered the Nes port was when compared to the original version until I got Subsistence on the PS2.

The Christmas that my bro got Metal Gear on the Nes, I believe was the one I got Batman on the Nes. That damn game still haunts me. I've never beat it without cheating.

Back in the late 80s through the early 90s me and a couple of friends had what we called the Network where we traded up on games with other people around different neighborhoods in the city. I am talking about a good 6 or 8 mile radius. I would say that in about 3 years time, I had gone through about 150 games for the NES and about 200 for the SNES. Thats just too many games to name. The Networking just stopped because people moved and I lost touch with the people I dealt with. Now, I only have 1 person I go to for trade ups. He is the only person I trust with my games. Those days were the best of my life.

You're fat and its your fault!!! | So the other day I was playing Yoville on facebook and SHO was a neighbour of mine...so I go and visit him at his apartment and we start kissing and then I take him to the bedroom I hop into his bed and he starts freaking out...it was fucking hilarious...LUV U SHO!!!

Yes those metal gear codes were so annoyingly long to write down. I had a whole notebook filled with them, they were so long. I never did finish that first game, it was fun as hell, though. And hard.

It was hard if you didn't have the map that came with the game. We used to have it, but my dad used to go through our room, and take all our toys, and anything laying on the floor and throw them away for no good apparent reason. Maybe we were messy, but we were kids. Anyways, long story short, were were only able to recover a small shred of that map for the game. I've still got that piece. It's got the little key thingy that tells you what weapons to use on each boss, and part of the map on the other side.
