they redid the advance too but still had DS three years after the original GBA

I wouldn't bet the farm on Nintendo having a new handheld. Sure the DS was intended to be the "third pillar" of Nintendo but it seems like Nintendo has really backed off of that for now. If there was a new handheld, I would believe it would be a system where you can download games much like the VC. The days of disk/cartridge drives in gaming is coming to a close.
