Review: The Legendary Couple #1
The story of Seven Great Masters of the Circle of Warriors and the legacy they unfold.
Story by Louis Cha and Tony Wong
Art by Louis Cha
The Story:
The Legendary Couple Volume 1 begins a tale of deceit, revenge, blood oaths, and familial loyalties. The story puts you right in the thick of open conflict between clans and kung-fu masters. The story unfolds slowly, as events are recalled in past-tense flashback narratives.
The Art:
Louis Cha?s art is very fluid, and forceful. His comic panels place emphasis on the forcefulness of the characters? actions. It?s not enough to merely illustrate a movement or shout; Cha uses color and dynamic illustrations to convey the strength and magnitude in each action in every panel.
The Verdict:
The art in The Legendary Couple is terrific, and the plot has merit. The story houses a horde of minor characters, all of whom have an intricate connection to the unfolding story, and it?s difficult to anticipate what?s going to happen next. This could have a negative effect, though?the reader might feel the plot is convoluted and perplexing.
