Review: Eye of the Storm Annual #1

Wildstorm resuscitates the ?annual? concept with 4 anthology stories.

Written by Portacio, Johns, Wright
Pencilled by Portacio, Pearson, Coker, D'Anda
Inked by Friend, Pearson, Coker, D'Anda
Colored by Studio F, Self, Cox, Wildstorm FX

The Story:
There's a little something for everyone in this anthology series featuring short solo stories of different Wildstorm characters from Wetworks and Wildcats among others.

The Art:
The highlight of this book is the art featuring dynamic, detailed art by the likes of old vets like Portacio and Pearson to newcomers Coker and D'Anda. I especially like the high production values with awesome computer effects and colors printed on glossy stock so that the art really pops!

The Verdict:
This is a great looking anthology book with top creators and production values, but the hefty price tag makes it difficult to recommend when it could pay for almost two complete stories of regular Wildstorm books. I appreciate Wildstorm's attempt to revive the annual concept, but perhaps one long, self-contained story featuring the same creators working on different chapters would make it a better sell. In the tight fight for shelf space, these short stories will find it hard to stand up against long running story arcs.
