First Look: Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning
It's pretty rare when a cancelled game gets resurrected in the gaming industry, but Warhammer Online: The Age of Reckoning is finally back on track with its new developer Mythic.
It's pretty rare when a cancelled game gets resurrected in the gaming industry. It's even rarer when a game gets resurrected twice and acquires an entirely new development staff, but Warhammer Online: The Age of Reckoning is finally back on track with its new developer Mythic ( Dark Age of Camelot ).
Old school fans of the tabletop Warhammer fantasy world will be delighted to know that you'll be able to play as six different races in the Warhammer universe. Each race has its rival and the world is balanced between the forces of Order and Destruction. You'll be able to create characters from the Empire (humans), Chaos (worshippers of demonic beasts from an alternate reality), Dwarves, Green Skins (Orcs and Goblins), High Elves, and Dark Elves.
Conan, What is Best in Life?
True to the series new development team's style, Age of Reckoning will be the spiritual successor of the Dark Age of Camelot series and will feature realm versus realm warfare through an integrated PVP (person-versus-person), and PVE (person-versus-environment) battle system dubbed Battleground. Each Battleground will be segregated and will include both forms of traditional MMORPG (massive-multiplayer-online-role-playing-game) quest and combat types.
Players will be able to differentiate the various areas by viewing their in-game map. Green areas indicate PVE; yellow areas indicate PVP areas with PVE boss creatures and objectives, while red areas indicate PVP death trap areas.

Additionally, Age of Reckoning will feature four PVE and PVP quest types. Realm based quests will have a single goal for both massive armies to achieve. Branching quest allow players to explore multiple outcomes and receive alternate rewards for their troubles. Christmas quests are adventures that are located off the beaten paths with special rewards that entice players to explore the Warhammer world. Lastly, Conflict type quests consist of PVP competitive races where each group of characters race to acquire the same goal, like ripping trophies from opponents, or drinking the most beer, etc.
The PVP Combat system will also sport four varying combat experiences. Players will be able to take part in one-on-one skirmishes, battlefield combat which is objective based, scenarios which will have NPC allies for aid and defense, and massive campaigns where you'll team up with other players to invade and capture enemy territory with the ultimate goal of ransacking your foes capital city. Capturing and pillaging your enemy's cities will offer huge rewards and you'll be able to kill all the NPC characters occupying your captured borough, including shop keepers, bar maids, etc --pillage and burn baby.

Furthermore, Age of Reckonings combat system will run on two timers which will allow players the flexibility to play defensive (reactionary) or offensive. This system promises to add variety and additional strategy to players combat instance experiences.
Death will also be handled in a truly unique way. If your character falls in combat, you'll be presented with a chance to use acquired Fate Points to resurrect yourself and continue the fight at the very same instant you died. If you don't have any Fate Points, you'll be resurrected but you'll also acquire Insanity Points and you'll temporarily suffer from various attribute penalties. The only way to rid yourself of these insanity penalties is to successfully complete PVE quests.

Age of Reckonings will also sport a full character cosmetic customization engine, an intricate career system for classes, and a war-centric crafting system where you'll be able to create deadlier weapons and items to kill hordes of your foes.
Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning is really early in development, however; with the development team responsible for Dark Age of Camelot on the project, Age of Reckoning seems to be well on its way to being worthy of the Warhammer name.
