Preview: Fable: The Lost Chapters
The Xbox RPG makes a fine translation to the PC with expanded content and improved graphics.
Fable, last year's ambitious Xbox RPG, was a sprawling saga that encompassed the entire life of your character, from childhood to old age, while chronicling his rise to power as the most powerful being in the world. Now developer Lionhead Studios is looking look to make a big splash on the PC this September with an expanded Fable with more customization ability, new quests, improved graphics, and a more suitable interface. Oh, and a shiny new subtitle: "The Lost Chapters."
Even on the Xbox. Fable was impressive: its lush, gigantic world featured compelling characters and gameplay elements that made it very similar to massively-multiplayer titles. The near-complete build we checked out proved that Fable: The Lost Chapters looks and plays far, far better than the Xbox version. The crisp, detailed world runs butter-smooth, and the hyper-stylized visuals still look cutting-edge (although all of the character faces are still somewhat reminiscent of a child's baby doll). It'll be interesting to see how Fable is received on a platform where it competes with proper MMOs that offer real-life competition and less storyline, but Lionhead looks to be well prepared with a better version of an already great game. These Chapters are destined to make a huge splash on the PC.
