Jumbo Jet 2.0

Rarely has such an impressive collection of commercial airliners ever come together in a single package. 16,000 tons of jumbo jet and whaddaya get?

Rarely has such an impressive collection of commercial airliners ever come together in a single package. While casual sim fans will likely shake their heads in total bewilderment at the premise behind Data Becker's Jumbo Jet 2.0, true 747 fans will be a few thousand feet closer to heaven.

This data disc adds no fewer than 66 classic Boeing 747 jetliners to Microsoft's Flight Simulator 98-albeit two different models of the Boeing 747-100 and 200 series dressed up in the liveries of more than 45 different airlines.

Each plane shares a common 3D cockpit and it's here that most serious cyber-pilots will spend countless hours with their favorite model. The level of detail that has gone into rendering these photo-realistic instrument panels is exhaustive. As with Microsoft's more basic 737-400 panel, myriad mouse-clickable switches and levers are available to control the aircraft's many systems.

Casual pilots definitely need not apply.

The aircraft exteriors are also impressive. In addition to the authentic airline paint schemes on fuselages, developer SkyDesign has painstakingly re-created every detail on the 747's beefy undercarriage and jet-turbine engines. The installation CD also comes with a pair of enhanced scenery files for Washington D.C. and Zurich that feature 100 different airports-not to mention a large collection of printable European and North American flight maps, with which 747 devotees can chart their progress through the heavens.
