Gangs of London
- October 04, 2006 00:00 AM PST
Murderous British gangs wreak havoc on the streets of London as they brutalize one another for ultimate control of the criminal underworld. Is this the unofficial The Getaway sequel PSP owners have waited for or just another half-assed Grand Theft Auto clone with a twist?

Bloody Good Show
PROTIP: Don't immediately get out of your vehicle; use your car as a weapon.
The story in Gangs of London is told through comic strips in the vein of Guy Ritchie films like Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels or Snatch. Always violent and occasionally funny, the interactions between gangsters are interesting enough to keep you completely immersed in what's going on. The graphic novel presentation in Gangs of London turns out to be one of its finer aspects.
In Story Mode, you select one of five different gangs from Cockneys to Jamaicans, each with their own gang attributes. Everything from how gang members drive to their overall "toughness" comes into play. By successfully completing missions, you and your goons acquire more territory and level up. During missions you can give orders to your men and even switch to whomever you want to control.
PROTIP: There's no police wanted meter, so watch out for pesky bobbies.
There is also a certain degree of strategy involved in some of the more hairy missions, and you'll want to take advantage of these options. There are more than 60 missions in Gangs of London, but they all fall into one of only three types of levels. There's the driving level, the shooting all the enemies on the screen level, and the sneaking around level, all of which become horrendously dry after a while.
PROTIP: Swap between your cronies in order to use the best weapon for the situation.
